I have discovered that my 2 year old neutered male cat, Dino, likes salted peanuts and smoked almonds.  I found out quite by accident when I caught him stealing them.  Does anyone know if either of these are harmful to cats please?  My vet thinks it is an unusual taste for a cat, which she has never encountered before, but is unwilling to say if they are bad for him.  Does anyone know?  Thank you.

A couple peanuts won't hurt your cat, but try not to let him get his hands on salted ones. (some cats have peanut allergies though.)

Smoked almonds are perfectly fine, but a high choke cat food

Thank you -FurBallsMeow.  It was not intended for him to get  ANY  nuts, he helped himself when I was doing something else.  I came back in the room and there he was helping himself to the nuts.  Once I had stopped him he complained  VERY loud and long about what a meany I was!  I have lived with cats all my life and never seen a cat select nuts as a treat before.  The strange thing was, he totally ignored the cheese and cubes of cold meat!!

My cat Pushy is a little piglet and always stealing food. He likes to go out on the balcony and nibble at any peanuts or suet pieces that have spilled from the feeders.

I'm surprised Dino ignored the cold meat though!

Thank you for your response.  It has to be said that Dino seems to hav unusual tastes for a cat.  He is absolutely made about strawberries.  Strawberr plants are just not safe in the garden when the ruit is ripe.  As son as I get strawberries outof the fridge he appears as if by magic and begs and begs for one!  Odd but knd of cute.

If he is THAT strongly for nuts and strawberries, you can use this as treats and "payment" to learn him tricks and deeds.   :)

He wont be able to resist, as far as he understoods the task before him.  He will be verry eager to comply to your demands.    America Got Talent, here you come in two-tree years time!

Nay, after the dog Pudsy and his young Ma Asleigh, it will be difficult to beat them.

But you can always participate in some Agility race, no problems.   :)
