Today I was looking at the Airmiles site. My BFF's birthday is in early May and I thought I might find something on Airmiles to give her as a gift.  I saw another Dyson there; a DC66 Animal, the kind with a ball.  I just had to have it!  LOL  Needless to say my friend isn't getting a gift from Airmiles!  LOL

This is my second Dyson.  I'm not getting rid of my first one because it still works great.  But I'll keep it plugged in in the Cat's room so that I can give a quick vacuum to pick up any stray cat litter, without having to lug a vacuum around.  The new one,  since it goes from carpet to floor without having to change a dial, and the head can fit a bit under things, will be used in the rest of my apartment.

This is what my first one looks like.  You turn a dial to go from floor to carpet:

I love my Dyson! Time to clean the filter though, but that thing can really pick up stuffs. My place looks "clean" from a naked eye, but the bag fills up fast with hair and dust.

We have the first one, too, the upright and it's a fantastic vacuum cleaner. It's feels almost self-propelled when you're working - so easy! I've always had cheap vacuums and after using a Dyson, I realized it was like I'd been dragging a cinder block around for years. No wonder I hated vacuuming.

My husband does most of the vacuuming these days, so he picked the big animal (purple) one. I would have picked the small animal Dyson if it had been my choice. Still, when I do vacuum the large one is super-easy to push around, and really amazing how much fur gets picked up. They are also well-designed, easy to empty when you're finished, and the hose is stored right where you need it, and goes right back in place when you are done.

Are you getting the large or small one?

I still want a Dyson so bad.  I have for years!  I thought we might be in the market for a new vacuum; our current one is almost 10 years old.  But DH was able to order the parts and fix ours. I think it's a Dirt Devil.  It does seem to do ok.  The canister fills up fast around here; between human hair, pet hair, litter, crumbs and dirt!  Why anyone would want a carpeted dining area is beyond me; but that's what I have so I need a vacuum that can handle all sorts of messes.  DH is always having to remove long hair (DD's and mine) from the brush though.  That gets annoying.

I'm thinking of asking DH if we can get a spot cleaner for the carpet.  He bought me a carpet cleaner and it helps a lot; but it's so big to pull out and fill for small messes in between when he does the big cleaning. Maybe after this we can go for a Dyson.

We have your first Dyson. Funny you should post as we were talking about vacuum cleaners yesterday. Even though we're on our third hose with our Dyson (and it's ages old by now), we need a new vacuum cleaner and I told Rick I'd like to get another Dyson. Despite everything, it's the absolute best vacuum I ever had on cat litter on bare floors and on cat fur in general. Our current Dyson is not in the best shape anymore, but when it was, it was awesome. I honestly can't say enough about it, other than numerous problems with the hoses.

We bought a Hoover Wind Tunnel a few years ago. At first it seemed to work well. As I used it, though, it got bad. I don't like it; it doesn't pick up cat litter on bare floors (and that's how I judge a vacuum; that's an important criterion for me), the cord is way too short to get me through the house without stopping constantly to unplug and plug back in, and the cord is supposed to be retractable, but only works about half the time. Would never buy another one and I feel that it was a total waste of money.

I didn't know there were size differences.   All I know it's the DC66 Animal, and looks like the one in the first picture that I posted.

I'm looking at vacuums (again). I bought an Oreck a couple of years ago, but it was a mistake as it doesn't have tools. I don't want a super expensive one, so I'm thinking of a Shark Rotator. Looks good and has a good reputation. It's $159 in Bed Bath& Beyond and we can use the 20% off coupons we get in the mail so it won't be very expenisve. I'd like a Dyson but don't want to spend that much money. Does anyone have any comments about Shark?

I wouldn't have a Dyson had it not been for my Airmiles. I just don't have the kind of money to buy an expensive vacuum cleaner.   My first Dyson was 100% free. I didn't even have to pay for shipping.  This new one that I ordered is also 100% free.

I've heard that the Shark is giving Dyson a run for it's money.
