I bought a bunch of S & C freeze dried when my cat was first diagnosed with IBD, but ended up sticking with canned food.

I've see it mentioned here that it can be used as a topper.  How exactly does that work.  Would that be OK to try with my IBD kitty as well as the other two.  I've been adding a Fortiflora chaser to their new grain free diet because they've been a pain in the neck about the switch.

I just crumble up to one little nugget (sometimes just a half) of Stella & Chewy's on top of a portion of food: our cats love it on canned food or (reconstituted freeze-dried) raw food. They'll eat pretty much anything with it.

I can't speak to the appropriateness of feeding S&C to an IBD cat...

I don't know specifically about S&C or freeze-dried raw, but I know that some owners, including TCS members, have had tremendous success when raw feeding IBD kitties. One member has journaled her transition here (novel long--be sure to set aside time!):

I've had tremendous success with my IBD male cat, transitioning from canned to mostly commercial raw. We are aiming for 100% raw, his sister is holding us back a bit, however, I keep trying .... (she'll eat FD commercial, but no thawed raw).  No more stinky, soft stools, vomiting, etc. I've also added a probiotic to his food as well.
