I once picked up a stray I was SURE was pregnant. . .but she wasn't. Just worms plus a naturally round shape, I guess :tongue2:. It could also be a false pregnancy.

OK, so she can't have gotten pregnant outside or she would have had them already. BUT, she could be pregnant by your male. Males can be fertile as young as 7 or 8 months (I've heard stories of younger males sucessfully mating but most don't have any clue before then) so he could have been sexually mature even if not fully socially mature. And even if she doesn't normally like him, a cat in heat may not be so picky ;). So if he got her pregnant at the last second (say a week before or after neutering---yes, they can retain some sperm for a while after neutering!), she'd only be about a month along. Or it could have happened any time before that.

I guess all you can do now is wait :dk:. You might start her on kitten food---if she is pregnant, this will give the kittens a good start in life, and if she isn't pregnant it won't hurt her except maybe to put a little weight on.

Thank you. You're right, I just have to wait I guess. I just didn't think a pregnant belly looks so funny: nothing on the sides, but a huge bump all the way down...

Well, she was pregnant! everything started last night when her abscess just opened. It drained a lot of white fluids with some blood, I cleaned it up with some hydrogen peroxide. My girl seemed to be comfortable, but didn't eat too much. And this morning I woke up to her with one little kitten right in a middle of my hallway. She was actually in a process of delivering another one. We got her a box, and after some time she delivered the third one.

and now my question is: how would I know if she has milk? I can't see it, her nipples is kind of small, so I'm afraid for the kittens...

My Odd eyed cat is pregnant for sure as well, I noticed when she didn't go into heat last week, the noticed her nipples were all of a sudden the size of tic tacs, goodluck to you and your momma! If not enough milk I would suggest going to walmart or petco and picking up some KMR-milk replacer, best wishes

!

Haha, well, I guess that settles it! If the kittens are content and their tummies look round, they're probably getting enough milk. If they squirm and cry a lot, and their sides look sunken, that means you'd need to formula-feed them. You can call your vet to ask for advice about bottle-feeding. But hopefully that won't be necessary.

One thing I'm worried about is that it's very expensive to properly raise kittens, and you said you couldn't afford to take her to the vet. So if anything about their care is too much for you, contact a rescue agency to see if they can offer assistance. I don't want the little babies to be neglected!

Oh, no, they will not be neglected! The mom will get fixed in about 8 weeks or so, and I have some people who might be interesting in adopting kittens. This is just a first time for me, so I really don't know what to watch for. So I really appreciate your advises!

kitten have round bellies, and only cry when their mom leaves a box (she got her appetite back ;-)

I was reading some of the threads, and now I'm thinking: may be it wasn't pus but milk?

Sorry to bother everyone again, I'm just probably paranoid, but something doesn't look right to me.

1, My girl still has two huge bumps on her belly

2, just one (or may be two maximum) nipples can be used for feeding, Others are still kind of undeveloped.

3, Kittens are squirming almost constantly and "fighting" for available nipples.

4. Her abscess is leaking white fluid (milk? puss?)

Did this happen to any other cat? Is this normal?

it better to be paranoid then not to care that all

I don't know how to take her there: without kittens, but she wouldn't want to leave them. And it's to cold to take them out...

Just take the kitten with, cover the kennel with thick blanket and warm up the car

If I were in your situation I would be on the phone with the vet now. People take the mama cats in and bring the kittens with them in the same carrier. If your kittens are not able to eat any are possibly being exposed to the contents of an abscess; vet care may be critical to survival at this point. You may also need to begin supplementing asap.

I am not trying to be an alarmist or frighten you. We care; we just cannot replace the care of a veterinarian in all situations.

Please keep us updated!

How are things going?

Her abscess looks bad. I would definitely talk to a vet. For that abcess it really needs to be opened up ,cleaned, and dressed.

Sometimes abscesses like that don't hurt to bad because the infection is so bad you can't feel anything at all in the area.

Don't let the kittens get any of the white stuff in their mouths. It is puss and will make them very sick. Please let us know how things are going.

She's moved her kittens to another place. One of them is noticeable smaller than other two. I was trying to put him next to her nipple, but then other two started to yell, and she didn't like it. She still has just two nipple working, others are flat and dry, although tissue under them is swollen and hard (same bumps I was worried about from a beginning, but slightly smaller). I clean her abscess with hydrogen peroxide couple times a day, it still leaking white fluid. I am not sure it's puss, because it doesn't smell at all.

Please take her and the kittens to a vet, the kittens will be fine in the cold for few seconds, just cover up the kennel with a thick blanket

Do you have milk replacer?

I just got off the phone with my vet. She said it's not normal, but she wouldn't worry too much about mamma cat, but mostly about a little boy. She told me I should hand feed him. I have a milk replacement, but I heard it's not good for kittens.

What the milk replacement, it might be acceptable

Our experts on this site recommends KMR by PetAg or goat milk(raw goat milk is the best)
