I would like to excuse myself for the bad english to come.

My cat, a birman race, aged 17 years and 6 months suddendly lost weight, I mean she was fatish before and now she almost skin and bone, she hasn't been eating anything for the past 3-4 days, just drinks some water from time to time, has not popped, also she's struggling to breath, opening her mouth when she inhales air. You can see the effort on her lungs inflating...didn't notice it was so severe, now she's just lying in the middle of the room on her side...it's sunday, I don't know if she'll make to tommorow to get her to a vet. Does anyone know what could be wrong with her ?

Hello, lamrobert and welcome to the forums.

I'm sorry things are not going so well for your kitty.

You need to get her to an emergency vet, though. Not eating for 3-4 days can trigger liver damage.  Open mouth breathing is also a symptom that needs immediate attention. Cats are not like dogs. They do not normally pant.

Good luck with her and let us know what happens.

I was away for the past few days, when I left she was a little woozy but she's almost 18, I mean she sleeps normally 18 hours a day cause she so old, and nobody was looking out for her closely enough to notice she hasn't been eating almost nothing.  Now my mother told me she barely ate anything for the last 3 days...and my mom went and bought a ton of different cat food, she hasn't touched any. She's so weak...I need to get her to someone like right now.

Yes, please get her to a vet ! I'm assuming from your previous post it is Sunday where you live and regular vets are not open. You can find an emergency vet either through the internet or most vets will post emergency vet information on their doors.

The fact that your mother says she did eat a little is a bit better than eating nothing at all, but she still needs attention.

Again, good luck.

Got her to the vet...doctor is pretty sure she's got lung cancer( I'm so ignorant I didn't even knew cats could get that). She was too weak for an x-ray to confirm the diagnostic so the doc gave her some shots(vitamins, antibiotics) and tommorow I'm going again to get her the x-ray....I don't know if it confirms she's got lung cancer I don't want her to suffer, I've had other members of my family go through that and it's a nightmare. I think I'll put her down tommorow....well at least she lived a long happy life.

So sorry to hear the diagnosis. At least, though, you know you did your best. And you care enough not to let her suffer. Don't feel bad about not knowing until the last minute. Cats are like that, they mask their symptoms as a survival technique (they don't want to appear weak). But that means a lot of times you don't know anything's wrong until the last minute.

She died....turns out is was more than lung cancer, her organs were failing.... Anyway I learned my lesson, never ever get a pet that you could / can /will outlive. At least she's not in pain anymore...tnx for your help guys.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Please don't come away from this thinking that you should never get another pet. We always know in the back of our minds that we will more than likely outlive them but every second we get with them is worth it. You had her for over 17 years. You obviously loved her very much and she loved you, too. it was no one's fault. Please give yourself time to grieve for her. Think about all the great times you had with her over the past 17 1/2 years. In time when you think of her and the love and friendship you shared you will smile and maybe when the time is right you will change your mind about opening your heart and your home to another cat who needs a loving home like the one you gave to your little girl for so long.
