After losing my 13 yr old siamese companion on Christmas Eve, I adopted Red a 1-1/2 yr old boy from my vet who is very outgoing. In Red's time on the screen porch he started talking to several other cats and I looked up 1 evening after he'd been with me a couple of weeks to see him walking in obviously telling someone to come with him. In just a minute, sure enough a pretty marble red tabby followed him in and Red showed him over to the buffet table for dinner. The next night was a repeat.

A few days later, this little guy starts coming in and looking at me for permission, then after a few days he decides it's obviously where he's supposed to be taking his meals and permission is no longer necessary. Red didn't approve and the fireworks started. So after a couple of days they worked that our.

Next came the sneaking in to spend the night and finally after a couple of weeks letting me pet him. So then he got a name, Riley (living the life of), and liking being petted Sooo very much, Riley decided it was time to be a 1 cat home and he should dispose of Red since he definitely wasn't going to have 2 males in the bed with his sugar mama.

Riley got put outside for the night with the explanation that he could join the family but not dispose of family members.

Riley and Red have now been fun loving brothers for 2 months. Riley enjoys finishing the portion of Red's canned food that he's saving for later. He's working on enjoying being held half as much as he adores being petted. And he's up to date on his vet ckup and neutered.

Everyone should have such as great an experience integrating new cats into their families.

That's a nice story. I'm glad to hear Red managed to talk you into getting another cat, so good when they choose their own buddies like that.

I've wondered the same thing.  There is location near my house of feral cats which is where Riley has come from.  Red was raised from a kitten by my vet and there are no records of the family that brought in the litter.  The interesting similarity is that they both keep their  mouth closed and hum rather than meow as primary communication, which I've never heard in my 56  year of being a cat guardian.
