I'm annoyed, i can't stand the sight of seeing my kitty scratch every few minutes because of those darn fleas! School has me under the pressure, it's the end of the school year and i got to catch up on my grades, i'm 17 so i don't have a job although i wish i really did!! I'm broke, my kitten has fleas, i got to have him spayed soon or else there will be spraying in my SMALL house and more than likely if i don't find a solution quickly i will be forced to give him up!!!! :( Please if you can help me either financially or at least by sharing my link PLEASE!

This is proably not th place but i'm talking about  a POOR LITTLE KITTY! :(No negative comments please. P.S. I have tried some products and washing him but it's useless unless i clean the sofas, carpet, and beds first with a profesional but i don't have the money or the age for a job yet.

From the Mod Team Regarding Pleas for money:

Cats are a huge responsibility. Anyone who thinks otherwise, should not have one in their life. They are dependent on us for everything from providing a place to eat, to also providing vet care.

Anyone who has cats knows that they can and do get ill. Your best defense is to plan for that to happen before it does, and store monies away in preparation.

If you read about a plight of an animal on the internet and your heart is drawn to help, check out the story thoroughly. Google the vet's name or call Directory Assistance in the city and be sure this is a legitimate claim.

Do not blindly send money into a paypal account no matter how heart-wrenching the story. Instead reach out to the member and ask for the vet's name and phone number, and arrange to send the money there for the specific needs of the cat in question.

If that information cannot be provided- you have your answer. Report the post to a moderator so that it can be removed for not being on the level.

There is a spray that you can buy either online (I know Ebay sells it) or from the vets. Its called 'R.I.P Fleas' it's purple. Take the kitten out of the rooms you want to spray. Open all the windows and then spray all the carpets and furniture with it. Don't let the cat back in these rooms until after an hour. Use Frontline Combo on the kitten (vets only). I had an infested house once, and I know this works. You need to break the flea cycle, or else they will keep returning.

As for the financial part, instead of asking for assistance with money, as many people will not just send out their money to people they don't know, you could try asking for someone buy the product for you and have them sent to your address, That way, they know that it is being used for what you're struggling with.

Capstar   (this spelling) does works, it kills the fleas almost instantly.  The problem is, it kiills just the adult fleas being there at this moment.  It doesnt kills the larvae nor eggs, so the capstar must be completed by something else too.

But if you for example shall take home a just found stray, its a good way to quickly deflease him.  and follow up by some other preparate.  Revolution or Advantage II.

How is the flee thing working out....

-

I personally keep catnip plants outside the front and back door to my house,.. rubbing catnip on kittys footsies chases most flees away.. But this method is an organic method, and less aggressive then the products mentioned in this forum...  Its more on the mindset if I can keep flees away then their will be less chance of the eggs being left around... AND that can get VERY exponential... fast!?!

-

I know the pet stores by us, if you ask... have a "Pass it forward reward"  if you fill out some paperwork they will get you the product you need.

-

I personally rub my cats down with Catnip leaves, feet and stuff like that..  the scent and oils will drive kitty(s) craZy...  so what works for me, Might not work for you at all....  BUT do see what your local PET stores can do to help you... Managers on duty would be the best or a local Vet.

-

Hope everything is well, and maybe donating some of your time at a local pet SHELTER could help you, I know it keeps my EYES open to appreciating

what I have and helping just feels good.... Good Luck and have a fun & productive summer...

You need to treat your cat and your environment. First bathe your cat with blue Dawn dish soap to get rid of the existing fleas. Capstar works well too for this purpose. Avoid cheap flea products like sprays, powders and topicals that cost less than $10 per dose. Advantage and Frontline are reputable brands for topical prevention. There's also Easy Spot and Vectra which are also great products. Apply one of these every 3-4 weeks (yes, most of these can safely be applied every 3 weeks) for life. Also treat your environment. Use caution when using flea carpet powders/sprays. Vacuum your carpets once a week for three months or more and wash all bedding and clothing in the house. This is where the eggs of the flea like to live. The life cycle of the flea is about 3-4 months including all stages (egg, larvae, pupae, adult) so you have to treat both cat and home for that long to fully get rid of the problem. If you have other animals they also need to be treated during this time. Fleas suck and are tough to get rid of, but it's possible!
