Hello, I have a male cat 12 yrs old. A few weeks back, I noticed a lump under his chin about the size of a bean I'd say. No more or a little less than 1 cm across I would guess. I monitored it a few days and took him into the vet as his bottom lip seemed to swell a bit. The vet said it felt very hard and that wasn't a good sign. She took x-rays and told me he had a bone tumor. She felt is was very aggressive, likely cancer and said I could take him home, but he may only have a week before it affects his eating and drinking etc, could break the bone.  My only option she felt would be euthanasia.

3 weeks later and he shows no signs of pain or behaviour changes and still eats and drinks like normal. He looks good, his eyes are nice and bright, he is acting normal and purrs when he's petted etc.  He does not look like a sick cat at all.

Last night I noticed the fur in that area is going away, just over the lump. This morning when I checked, there is a scab on the lump and crusty stuff in his fur.

So now I am wondering, could my vet be way off? Would a bone tumor behave this way? Should I put him through the stress of taking him to another vet for a second opinion?

Has anyone had anything similar?

Also, the swelling went away a day or so after the vet visit.

I should mention that he was quite stressed by the whole ordeal and had to be sedated to be examined.
