One side of my cats gums is black. I don't know if they've always been like that, but she never lets me open her mouth.

She has a black spot on each pink paw pad, so I don't know if it's just a natural marking or not.

If it isn't a marking, is it very serious?

I'll get pics up as soon as I can.

what color is your cat?

"Lentigo  in orange and orange-faced male cats is marked by the development of asymptomatic, pigmented macules. Lesions are first seen on the lips and eyelids at <1 yr of age. Other sites include the planum nasale and gingivae. Lentigines are not precancerous and have no medical consequence."

not positive what the exact colour is, I figure she is a mackerel tabby. Mostly brown tabby, grey striped tail, some orange tabby patches around the white patches. some of her undercoat is orange.
I Her nose and paw pads are all pink with one black spot, an interesting characteristic of hers.
I think I can get a pic up tomorrow, of the black side anyway. She won't let me touch the other side, I hope it's not because she is having pain on that side.

Some cats naturally have black spots on their noses and gums, called freckles. This happens to most orange cats but other colors of cats can have these, too. My tuxedo DMH has a few black spots on her gums. She also has black spots on a few pad pads. If you're worried you can ask your vet about the spots but most likely they are just normal

Thank goodness, and thanks for your help everybody.

Gotta be careful health wise with an 11 year old cat
