Hi there, I have a small problem. So my kitty's litter box is between my toilet and the shower (its a sliding door so there is no issue with the water getting to the litter). This is the only place in the house that works for us and the cat so I can't move it. I have a hooded box without the plastic flap (it got lost somewhere, sad face) and we have a small cat rug for litter to grab to. The issue is that we can't have it come out too far because our shower rug is there and the floor is freezing without it in the morning. The cat does a lot of digging and of course she does it in the direction of the door of her box half the time so we end up with not only litter on the mat but also litter in front of the shower and on the shower mat. My boyfriend has repeatedly stepped on the litter that is on our carpet thus fusing it to the carpet. I don't know if anyone knows how to get that out but that would be cool. I actually came to ask if there are any recommendations for maybe a rug or something that can catch more of the litter? I don't want to spend a whole lot of money but I also don't want to have to wake up every morning and shake out the mat and then sweep before I shower.

There are plastic litter catchers that kind of tuck under the box in front and catch litter.  Look at Petco, Petsmart or Walmart, they all have some.  In addition, if there is ebough room, try putting the door to the litter box towards the BACK of the toilet, just make sure it's far enough away from the wall so your cat can get in and out, don't block the other side of the toilet with anything, leaving a clear path.  the combinatio of those two things will probably solve your problem.

Alternatively, you could try a different kind of litter, one that doesn't clump as hard and thus will not fuse to the rug.  There is one sold at Walmart called Fresh Results that is made out of corn cobs and is very fine, like sand litter.  It is not expensive, only 5.98 or so per bag, and it lasts a long time.

Thanks for the recommendations. I ended up making her a top loading litter box and she likes it a lot for the kicking room and we don't have nearly as much litter on the floor! The litter catcher didn't help and there was no way to turn the litter box towards the toilet lol. That is a good idea though!

Maybe you could also replace the carpet with a rubber or plastic one that's easier to clean. A doormat intended for outdoor use might work, such as:

Yeah, right now we took put the carpet until she gets used to her new top loading litter box, at that point it should be 95% fixed! The rest is just having to wash the carpet every once in awhile :) I have thought about looking into easier to clean rugs that are just less plush lol. We do need something fabric because the floor is FREEZING in the mornings! :)
