Hi, just wondering whether any of you think your cat suffers from any pain from their hypermobile tail?

I have a cat, marley, with a hypermobile tail. It curls all the way over his back and sits flat on his side (the tip just tickles his belly!). At the base of his tail I can feel all his bones/the joints in his tail very easily. Sometimes if I lightly press this area, he meows and i'm concerned that his hyper curly tail is hurting him somehow? i'm talking about the outer side of the base of his tail btw, the spot above his bum!

has anybody elses cat had this problem?

I should maybe add that marley is pretty much mute, he rarely makes a sound, which is why the meowing concerns me. He also tends to pull away and just seems a little uncomfortable. Maybe its just because i'm touching the area above his bum haha!

I have two cats who are sisters, their tails don’t curl on their side but they sit perfectly straight on their back and sometimes touches the back of their head. They don’t seem to be in pain, in fact, my cats put up their tail like that as a habit. My mom thinks it’s because the barn they were found in was abandoned so they did that to keep their tails from getting hurt or dirty, this theory seems kind of like a myth, but it does make sense. Anyway, my cats don’t seem to be in any pain at all.

A year ago an abandoned cat had 6 kittens in my carport.. 3 males and 3 females. The mother and the three females have tails that can lay flat on their backs. One of the cats has a form

of dwarfism. Though it only seems to have effected her front legs. She is small with a round head and eyes. She is a funny little girl. She is healthy. Silly Lilly is her name because she has many odd behaviors. She sleeps very soundly on her own little fleese blanket.

Hey Silly Lilly sounds like my cat Billie, he also has short little legs and is a small little one with a tail that lays flat on his back! I was trying to find out what it means but apparently not all cars can do this but he seems to only do it when he gets around me, it’s his way of saying Hey mama! Lol it makes me feel like he feels safe around me enough to relax his tail like that verses having it in any other normal signal position. Thanks for helping me by sharing your kittens story. I actually found him by the pond near my house & he’s so cute and small- I think he might be somewhat dwarfish too! He’s my lil Nugget! Here’s a picture!
