After many months of research and talks my boyfriend and I decided it was time to  acquire a new kitten. We have had 6 amazing years with Jerry our 11 year old rescued cat. We decided a kitten would be a good addition to the family. We started the introduction process  and kept Phil our new kitten in a safe room. Jerry hissed at the door a few times the first day but, we knew that was expected. We started feeding them across the door and until they were comfortably eating next to each other (about 5 days) we introduced them to each other. The first introduction went smoothly Jerry my older cat was cautious and alert but no hissing. Phil(Kitten) took it very well and wanted to play with Jerry. Jerry didn't take Phil's excitement too well and ran away from him. We were distracted and Phil peed in Jerry's box and even drank water from Jerry's bowl. We were concern but its been two days of supervised interaction and Jerry has been using the box even though Phil uses it too.  Jerry has been a bit stressed most of it comes from Phil's interest in playing with Jerry which Jerry takes as an attack today( day 2) he hissed at him and Phil kept going. this was Jerry's first hiss at Phil face to face , we had to put Phil back into his kitten room because Jerry was clearly upset. I have played with both of them and they have showed interest in playing next to each other without hissing Jerry in fact approached Phil when he was playing with his toy mouse today. Phil got too excited and jumped on Jerry( Jerry didn't take it too well).  I guess my questions are. Is Jerry taking this Ok? I'm not sure what to expect of the introduction process am I doing ok  should I slow it down?  We have only let Phil in the same room as Jerry for a few minutes throughout the day.  Jerry has been acting normal other than the stress he shows when Phil wants to play with him. He sleeps with us eats and uses his box ok. He is a bit upset with me I can tell he sometimes will give me his back when I talk to him. I have been pretty conscious about the time I spend with each cat and I have make sure Jerry is getting the attention he is used to. To make the process easier  how can I take Phil's attention away from Jerry. Jerry is fine when Phil is in the room not pouncing or trying to get his attention. I know Jerry and Phil are in good health they both saw the vet before meeting each other.  Today Jerry ate food while Phil drank water next to him no hissing or growling. The only stressful situation as I mention is when Phil wants to play with Jerry and Jerry clearly doesn't want to.

It's been a few days since you posted.  It sounds like things were going pretty well.  How are the boys doing now?
