Hi everyone, I am new to this site and have had my present cat for about 2-2.5 years now. I was just wondering what breed my cat is, he clearly has Persian genes but doesn't seem like pure Persian, because he has a flat nose but it isn't as 'scrunched up' as the other Persian cat photos I have seen online.

It's a shame there are no papers/documents about him (I do not even know his age but the vet guesses he is about 4-5 years old) as I got him from a friend's friend who initially wanted to surrender him to a shelter, as she can no longer care for him due to unforeseen circumstances and it looks like his original owner has conveniently dumped her responsibility on this friend of mine. Glad I found him so I decided to take him in.

Also, sorry for the irrelevance but if anyone has any tips on helping a cat gain weight, it will be very much appreciated. I have been trying to get him to gain weight since the vet said he is slightly underweight. Been giving him wet food and dry food daily in small but frequent meals, but his appetite isn't big ):

He looks lovely, and I'm sure he's a Persian of some kind. I know that there are different types - I believe the non flat faced ones are called "doll faced" so maybe he's one of those or a mix perhaps.

Thanks pushylady! I certainly didn't know the Persians have the doll-faced kind, I think you might be right :)

Not every purebred comes out to show standards. Otherwise there would be no pet-quality kittens for sale! ;) That kind of flat face is lost very quickly when mixed so I would guess he is purebred but not show quality.

Could you post a photo of your cat from the side while standing? I am looking for body type. A Persian body should be short and cobby with massive legs..From what I have seen in the other photos, he does appear to be a pet quality Persian.

I still think he is Persian. He looks to have more the body type required. He is a pet quality Persian, and he is a beautiful cat! I see that you are trying to put weight on him. Here is a recipe I sometimes use to put weight on them. I use goats milk instead of evaporated milk. I also sometimes use a supplemental meal of pure protein - usually chicken breasts. They LOVE that! They get that right before bedtime.

Pounds On Pudding Recipe
2 cups water
2 Packet Unflavored Gelatin
1-12 oz can evaporated Milk (Goats milk can be used)
2 Egg Yolks (NO WHITES)
1- 8 oz pkg. cream cheese.

Dissolve gelatin in hot (not boiling) water.  Warm Cream cheese in
microwave then add to mixture.  Mix very well. You want all the cream cheese
to be dissolved well.  Then add evaporated milk (or Goats milk) and Cool
slightly.  Add egg yolks.  Mix well.
Freeze in ice trays (spray trays with no stick spray). Put frozen
cubes in freezer bags, use only what is needed.  Keep in freezer.
For my gang, I like to store in small 1 cup storage containers.
This way I can take it from the freezer and microwave it and feed the whole
gang at one time.  Or it is also enough for a day or two.
