So, my husband and I live with a family friend. Our friend has 4 cats, 1 of which is healthy, 1 that is mysteriously losing hair, one that eats anything edible that you give him and has the diarrhea to prove it, and the other... that yowls. In the morning. In the afternoon. In the evening. And especially ALL night. The other two, we're working on fixing their issues, but this one, named Boots...we just don't know. Also, he is not fixed. Our friend has agreed to get the two boys fixed, but won't let us get the girls fixed, for whatever reason.
This is similar to what he sounds like.
At first I thought maybe he wasn't getting enough attention, or played with enough. I play with him everyday to burn off that energy. That didn't work. So I tried showing him affection. He will let you pet him, which is more than two of the others will let you do, and NONE of the will tolerate being held for even a second.
At this point, it's starting to affect myself and my husband's sleeping. We've tossed out the idea that my friend should maybe downsize, and find new homes for the animals. Most of the reason being for that, is that he cannot afford vet bills for the pets, which most, if not all of them, need to be seen. He gave us a maybe on one cat, and a no on the three. His reasons were that one cat and both dogs belongs to my cousin, who now lives in Colorado for 2-4 years now, one is his baby, and one is his "snuggle bunny". When we moved in with him, the house was on the edge of being condemned. We cleaned it up, and do all of the caretaking for the animals.
I absolutely get where he's coming from, with rehoming two of the cats. I've had to rehome my first cat, and my first dog, in the last two years. It was horrible, but I did it because I knew we were struggling and knew that we couldn't give them the home that they deserved. He doesn't see that, though.
As of right now, until we can somehow convince him to rehome some of the animals without offending him, we need to deal with the yowling issue. He doesn't want affection, he plays multiple times a day and gets his energy out, he isn't hungry, he pees and poos just fine... I'm at a loss.
