Would go away but he's had it for a couple weeks and it's not. But it also isn't getting any worse or infected. Any suggestions?
Tried the hot compresses not helping

antiseborrheic shampoos, such as those containing benzoyl peroxide (at a concentration of 3% or less), or benzoyl peroxide gels are used to break down the excess oils. Supplementation with fatty acids  may be beneficial.
It may be helpful to switch food and water dishes to a stainless steel or glass variety in the event an allergic reaction may be a contributing factor (cats can be allergic to plastics and dyes). Using a very shallow dish can also be helpful. Owners should regularly clean the chins of cats who are prone to the development of feline acne and/or have poor grooming habits.

I don't know much about treating it, but I have read that plastic type bowls are often the culprit! I only use ceramic or stainless.

Yes, switching to stainless steel or ceramic dishes will help if he's using plastic ones, even if they're well washed daily. Plastic is porous and harbours bacteria quite well, and if the bowl is deep and small, his skin (and whiskers) are much more likely to touch the dish and transfer bacteria that way. Keeping the skin clean will help. I've found it was much easier on the cats and I when I switched them to flat ceramic saucers. Easier for them to eat, easier for me to wash.

If it's not severe, you can use plain water, diluted hydrogen peroxide, or human grade treatments like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid wipes twice a day, such as after each meal. The latter two are chemicals that BURN on open skin though - any acne sufferer can attest to that. I always recommend that if skin is broken, stick to water or hydrogen peroxide until it's closed up.

I do use ceramic bowls and clean after each use.
