Bald Patch In My Cat's Fur

Hello everyone! I am a new user here and would like to ask any of you your professional opinion regarding my feline's health. Below are two pictures I took of her bald patch. It has been visible for approximately a week. Initially, I didn't think much of it thinking maybe she was just shedding however, her fur seems to only be thinning in this one area. I also couldn't help but notice that the area around it is irritated and red. (you probably won't see that due to my camera's flash. I am considering taking her to the vet soon. Here is some additional information if it helps.

-She is a female

-She is approx. 7-8 years of age.

-She doesn't have worms/parasites

-She is a bit overweight but my family is trying to help maintain her weight

-she licks her fur a lot (noticed she has a little bit of a dandruff issue)

Welcome to TCS and thanks for the pictures.  Is she licking particularly in the area of the bald spot?  If she is she may have or be developing Psychogenic alopecia, an obsessive compulsive behavior.  See these links:
