Another probiotic question.

HI, folks, I have Obi on Proviable.  I think he does better on it than Fortiflora. .  Obi gets a capsule daily of Proviable each day for his IBD.  I also have Mittens, and feel I should do something for her to maintain healthy gut flora, but the Proviable is pricey.  Two questions:  what is a maintenance dose (just for good GI health); and is there a less pricey alternative that you all would recommend?  If maintenance for Mittens is like one capsule a week, I will stick to Proviable, but if the feeling is that more than once a week is advisable, then I would appreciate suggestions that are similar to the Proviable.. 

Gosh, I didn't even know Proviable even came in pill form.  The last time I looked, it was in a paste, kind of for emergency diarrhea use

And I agree with you entirely that it's a lot better as a probiotic than FortiFlora.  Pretty much ANY probiotic with more than one strain in it is going to be better (IMHO).  Did you know you can purchase Proviable on Amazon?  It's much less expensive than thru your Vet.  However, in answer to your question, not sure if just using it once per week will serve the purpose...obviously it wouldn't be AS good as daily, but anything is better than nothing.  There are definitely other probiotics out there you could try.  Some others that are used by folks here are either Natural Factors Double Strength Acidophilus & Bifidus (Amazon), or Nexabiotic 21 strain multi-probiotic (Amazon).  You would just have to compare the price per capsule, since one of these has 180 per bottle and the other has 60, and I don't know how much you paid for what you have now per capsule.

Yes, it comes in capsules, and I open them and sprinkle over the food.  And I do purchase from Amazon but it is still rather pricey, if I am giving it every day to both cats.  I will check in to the other suggestions you made, thank you!
