Good morning everyone.

How would you describe your cats' intelligence?

My boyfriend says quite tactfully that "they're not stupid, they just wouldn't do well in school". In cat terms, I think Kismet is relatively smart and quick - not the quickest, and not too smart to not be amused by toys, but she can problem solve well and she learns and adapts to changes in the way she solves problems very fast.

Mo has his moments where he's quick, but generally speaking, he needs a lot more repetition and reinforcement to learn. He's not a super great problem solver, and even after we've moved things (treats and such), he takes a long time to re-learn that those things aren't in their old places anymore, has no idea where to find them even if he sees us put them away. I stuck a licorice to the wall and used to put treats on top of it every night, and I would do so and let Mo watch me while he was sitting directly under it (when he's sitting, it's maybe 2cm above the top of his head). He would be clueless. Since I did it every night, Kismet would jump on a chair nearby and grab the treat literally right from above his head and he'd be oblivious to that too. Oh well. He's still cute...

Mine isn't very smart. He hasn't figured out what a kibble ball is, despite repeated attempts by me "food here, roll ball to get food!".

Once he launched himself at the window (bird outside), mistimed his jump, fell off the window sill and brought the speakers and tilted the monitor as he crashed on to the floor below. I never saw him for the rest of the day after that.

Yesterday as he crossed from my couch to my desk, something he has done for more than a year now, he slipped and fell to the floor and ran away startled.

I made one of those boxes with several holes cut out, and threw a treat in it. He saw it go in, sniffed the hole, and gave up.

Odd thing though, I'd had to move his box a couple of times and his food bowl. He had no problem remembering their new locations.

The girls are quite clever. Henry is a genius. You can look into those eyes and it's so obvious that there's a lot going on in there. If he could talk, he'd have plenty to say. He was so quick to find hiding places that I thought I had blocked off well. I know the girls are smart and Bailey ( who is a border collie- allegedly the smartest dog breed) is also but Henry puts them all to shame.

My two are reasonably smart. Blighty is very good at getting treats out of the wobbler. Whisky cleverly waits patiently while he does it. Whisky never answers when I call him but blighty does sometimes. I think mine are quite intelligent.

Where my cats are
Hmm.  I'll go with average for my 2.

One of my cat's growing up; well she wouldn't have done well in school either.  She used to walk into walls.  On purpose.  She was just extremely affectionate. She would walk over to the wall; bump her head on it, turn her head and rub her whole body on that spot without losing contact with that wall.

She also broke through a screen door by jumping through the screen.  She was my step-dad's cat when he and my mother met.  He said when she had a litter of kittens he had to watch her because she would ignore her babies. He'd get her and bring her to her nest and plug her babies in basically.  But then maybe I'm not giving her enough credit.  She was a polydactyl and she knew how to use her thumb to grab things if she wanted attention.  She especially loved grabbing the pen out of my hand if I was doing homework on my bed.
People loved her.  Occasionally someone will see me and ask about her or just start talking about her.  She's been gone since 2003.

Some of them, Button Moon, Little Boy and Chicken, are fiendishly intelligent. Others, such as Albert or Henry are what I would describe as challenged. Not stupid exactly, just not as good at working out how to open cupboards or get into places they shouldn't as the others are.

They all managed to survive at least part of their lives outdoors on their own though, so I guess they've got the smarts where they count.

Autumn is a very smart cat.  She is smarter than my beloved Misty was.  She seems to understand more of what I say, if I point my finger somewhere she follows it.  Sometimes I think she is too smart and always the brat

My Burt is slow and gentle and doesn't seem smart, but he can get into drawers and cabinets, something Casper can't figure out. He knows his name and when suppertime is too. Casper is extremely smart when it comes to hunting, I've seen him hide behind walls to leap and catch birds when they fly by, and even saw him dig a shallow 'trench' to lay in the dirt so he was hidden from the birds. He can tell time and is my personal alarm clock in the mornings (and when it is time to go to bed) He also knows his name and definitely the word 'NO'. I think they are both smart in their own way.

Average here also, I guess.  It's hard to tell sometimes because they are both incredibly well behaved as far as cats go.  So, either they are uber intelligent for quickly understanding the rules in our home, or incredibly dumb and just don't try to be too bad lol.  I always joke that Cocoa doesn't even know her name and she's been with us over 2 years.  However, on the other hand, she is quite clever about other things and rapidly learned to "sit!" when I give her meals.  Casper, is older and slower in general but he absolutely knows his name, and does understand some commands like "Come to bed!" And for sure, he understands other things we say to him too.

Actually they both are pretty smart in different ways but being cats, hide it well.

Reasonably intelligent. At least blighty sometimes comes when I call him. Whisky is too snobbish.

They seem to be really smart about some things, not too bright in other areas. For example, Tophel (rhymes with waffle) meowed to wake me up this morning because Sparkle had closed herself up in the front room again. Pretty smart. Sparkle always thinking she has to jump on the door to open it (regardless of which way it opens) is not so smart.

Tophel will open and close the cat food cabinet so it makes a banging noise  to remind me it's feeding time, but then he gets lost in our 500 sq ft  basement and you have to go down and rescue him. Sparkle has super-street smarts and stays out of trouble, but she can't figure out how to drink from the tap without soaking her head.
