Hello,
My 6yr old cat Coco was diagnosed with gingivitis stomitis in 2/ 2015. I am saving up the money to get her the surgery. In the meantime the vet wants to give her steriod shots but she advised me long term use is not good.. so does any one have experience and if other remedie that are available? I would really appreciate the advice..

Thank u

Normally the only treatment is a dental procedure.  Short term use of Prednisilone (most common steroid for cats) at an appropriate dose in an otherwise healthy cat is generally fine.  My cat who was 15 was on it for over a year with no ill effects.  Too high a dose or too long of use can result in diabetes, but if you're only only talking about a couple of months at a low dose like 5mg once a day your cat should be fine.

On the other hand, dental disease untreated can lead to heart disease and other serious problems so attending to your cat's teeth is important for long term health and a long life.
