Today is the Spring Equinox. Hurray, winter is officially over!

What do you love most about the spring?

For me it's the chance to get out in the garden. see what has survived the winter and start planting for the warmer months.

I think I love almost everything about spring.  I just had the strangest experience.  The weather changed here the same weekend our time changed.  It felt like someone flipped a switch for me.  I suddenly had enough energy to get through my day.  I felt great!!  I was happy.  Even when it was too soggy outside to go out and enjoy the warmer temperatures.

I love the hopeful feeling of spring.  I love seeing the first Robin of spring; that's something I always look forward to.  I love the warmer but not too warm temperatures.  I love watching the trees bud and flower.  We have a lot of flowering trees in this area; so spring is really pretty.  Every year I say I'm going to plant bulbs in the fall so we can have some spring flowers; but I never do.  Partially because I have no flower beds; just my veggie garden.

I guess I could summarize by saying that I love nature in the spring!

I love the flowers everywhere here in Victoria! The daffodils are in full bloom right now and the tulips have just come out in our (and everyone else's) lawns, yards, and gardens. We are in the yellow and white flower period, with the reds and oranges are just starting to come out. Also all the fruit trees everywhere are blooming pinks, reds, and dark reds.

Next will come all the blue flowers, we have hyacinth and some others I don't know the names. Right after blue, the other flowers go darker, and the queen of the night tulips bloom (my favorite).

Photo from our back yard a couple of years ago, queen of the night tulips at their best (you can see there's only a few yellow flowers left, and the red and orange are fading).

I like the Fall the best - we still have kinds of bloomin' flowers then, too, plus all the trees are different colors, it's really pretty here.

Well it may well be the start of Spring for you but here in Australia it is the start of Autumn. Summer is over and the sun goes in.... Winter means a cat permanently stuck to me like velcro...

The first flowers and leaves, birds singing, and the fresh earthy smell of the air lighten my spirits.

The daffodils, I saw yesterday that they had buds.  They usually bloom really quick after the buds so maybe today.

I love the 'perfect' 65-75 degree days with cool nights. It's SO busy in the spring, with getting flower beds raked out and the garden ready and trying to stay ahead of those weeds that could survive a bombing, it really goes by fast. At least I can stop worrying about the outdoor cats freezing! I guess what I love the most is just being able to be OUTSIDE!!!!

Oh I love that tulip! I tried growing it at my previous home but it never did very well. I should try it again where I am now.

I love the overall weather in Spring where we live.  I really like when the trees are just barely waking up, and you can see the new growth, a tinted green haze on their branches.  Temperatures are wonderful when in the 60's to low 70's with little humidity - we get to open windows to air out the house. I get a kick out of seeing my roses waking up, along with everything else in my garden and others.  I dislike allergies lol but thankfully mine are pretty controllable with the help of Zyrtec :D

I love being able to open my windows and get fresh air into my home. Just being outside without a winter coat and gloves. And yes the birds and flowers!

I love the smell of the air too - the smell as soon as the spring air comes whooshing in the windows the first time they're opened in the season is so cathartic. Like autumn, it has such a fresh and distinct smell. Our spring doesn't last long anymore though. Those temperature-perfect days are few and far between. We tend to jump from 2C to 25C in a matter of a week.

Swamp Witch, we used to have Queen of the Night tulips! I thought they were gorgeous. We paired them with Apache bearded irises and that was so pretty. The tulips came first and just as they were leaving, the irises came on. Sadly, both disappeared. We don't know if mice or voles got to the bulbs or what happened, but they're gone.

In another part of the garden, we had Burgundy Fringe tulips and they were so pretty, too. I love tulips and daffodils. One spring we were up at Niagara-on-the-Lake. We were lucky enough to be there in April and the tulips were everywhere. Such beauty.

Oh, and I dearly love orange poppies. They're a bugger to grow but their fern-type foliage is pretty. They're here and gone, just that quick. They come up, the flowers bloom and then they die right back to the ground. When my parents moved out of their house, Dad told me to take the poppies. We had to dig them up and they didn't all transplant well as poppies are difficult to transplant. But we managed to save enough of them that we have a nice little bed. Poppies remind me of home.

I love the sights and the scents of spring. To me, spring means flowers. I dearly love lilacs....the way they look, all nestled in the bush, the way they smell. We have a large lilac bush at the west end of the house. And when it gets warm enough and the lilacs come out, I open the windows in the computer room. The breeze will send the scent throughout the entire house. I can be in the kitchen and I'll smell the lilacs.

I love the fresh greens everywhere. From the new leaves on the trees to the green of the grass to the green of the new plants coming everywhere. So many different green colors. We have a black walnut tree that grew from a 2-3 foot stick to a large, gorgeous walnut tree. That tree is the last tree to leaf out in the spring and the first tree to lose its leaves in the fall.

Time to start looking at what we want to plant in the veggie garden!

Hmmm, sorry about that. Does it get very cold where you live? My brother lives in NSW and he spent the past few months torturing me with pictures of his cherubic little kids playing on the beach. Now it's time for us living in the frozen north to have our fun!

Yes definately send him sunny pictures, cocktails and tans. Sydney does get cold but they do get an awful lot of sun. I'm in glorious Busselton, South West of Western Australia. Close to the beach.... delicious.

Last night we had -18C and today it did snow better part of the day, also coming week is coldest in more than a month, so it feels like spring was cancelled :D

I think that amount of light is best in spring, during darkest part of winter we get only 4 hours of daylight and even that is quite dim light.

However that brightness causes lot of migraines for me, but it is still nice to see.

Also it is nice that one can get out without several layers of clothing.

Splitting wood is also nice, when snow melts and I have some room to put split wood, but it will take still a while until weather gets that warm.

Spring is not my favorite time of year still, even it gives lot more energy, pollen allergy, mosquitoes and no see ums will attack after each other right after snow melts, so I do prefer autumn :)
