Hello all

Has been a while since I've posted on here.

Here's an update.

I've now got 2 cats.

Penny the original that I adopted 2 years ago and Amy who I adopted 1 year ago.

Diet history:

When I first got Penny - she was on Felix wet food and Whiskers dry food... for her first year.

This was the brands that I could easily get from my local supermarket with the best protein (only 35%).

After when I got Amy... Amy had the worst smelling poops in the whole world. Honestly her poop stank up the whole house.

So I looked into changing their diet around December last year.

I looked online and found a website called Zooplus.

So I bought a 80% chicken no carb dry food brand called Applaws. This was much much pricier than Whiskers but I thought if it was healthier, then why not?

And I also bought Cosma which was no carb wet food.

Both cats loved the change! And their poop had almost zero smell! AMAZING.

However after a month or so, Penny started vomiting, a few times food - but mostly just water.

I really thought something was seriously wrong with her so I rushed her to the vet. They did all the checks and said there was nothing wrong.

She would vomit maybe once or twice a week. Sometimes in her sleep she would wake up and "burp" and then spit some water out. It was very odd!

I didn't think it was the food, I just thought she had started obsessing over water and drank too much. Water addiction or something. She drank a lot. Amy drank a lot too but didn't vomit like Penny. She did vomit a once or twice when she played too roughly after drinking.

Both cats are perfectly healthy and vet gave all clear.

So we just continued experiencing random puddles of vomit here and there for the past 3 months...

Next week we are going on holiday. So we are boarding both kitties to a cat hotel cattery. On their T&Cs they said if any one of them vomits, they will separate and quarantine said cat and charge me for extra room.

So... as an experiment. I switched them back to the Whiskers cheap brand for the last 2 weeks. Because obviously I didn't want to be charged double!

To me Whiskers and Felix, and other supermarket brands are junk food. Like feeding them McDonald's or KFC every day. Their poop stank because their body wasn't processing it properly. And in the long run I don't think it's healthy at all...

And... results are... like a miracle Penny stopped vomiting.

But their poop stinks. LOL.

Seriously though... I really do not want to continue feeding them Whiskers.

Applaws is a very very good brand... but for whatever reason Penny's stomach doesn't like it. She likes crappy Whiskers!!

Is there anything I can do?

Please can anyone tell me any other brand that is similar to Applaws that I can try?

Should I continue feeding them Applaws... and forever clean up tiny puddles of vom?

If you're talking about zooplus I'm guessing you're in the uk? I did a lot of research when changing my dog food and settles on a brand called eden holistic pet foods. They do a cat food as well, and to me it looks like one of the best out there...the dog version is the nearest rival to Orijin in the uk, but it's cheaper because it's not imported. You may need to buy direct because there aren't many stockists. They do sample packs too.http://www.edenpetfoods.com/product...-15-0-multi-meat-and-fish-adult-cat-food.html

You could also look at arden grange, or maybe meowing heads by barking heads, but I think that's more expensive for a slightly lower quality product imo.

Also, did you do the change slowly? You may just have gone quicker than Penny's stomach could deal with.

You could also ask your vet if Penny would benefit from a digestive specific food for a bit. A lot of them don't look great, but animonda integra protect gastrointestinal looks reasonable to me. It does list 'cereals (including 4%rice)' on the pack, but I emailed the company and the rice is the only cereal in the food (I may end up needing it for my little one so I did my research early).

I would want to be certain than there was nothing more sinister going on with Penny. You certainly shouldn't put up with/ignore regular vomiting.

Hello there~

Thank you for your reply !

Yes me & my kitties reside in the UK.

I transitioned the food change bit by bit for 2.5 weeks before fully giving them Applaws - was this long enough?

I will ask my vet on my return from holiday regarding the digestive specific food :-)! I am not sure why they didn't suggest this already!

And definitely look into Eden Foods - it looks fantastic!

Thank you very much!

My vet told me that Evo dry has the largest % of protein of any dry food.  It also contains a lot of fat.
