Malibu turned 9 this week!
I'm bringing him in tomorrow for his annual wellness visit and his first ever comprehensive senior panel which will include:
Some of you may have read a few of my other threads/posts about Malibu having stool issues. Long story short, his stool (most of the time, for the past 12 months) contains quite a bit of mucous and has an incredibly powerful odor that is very different from my other cat Kali's stool. There are times when his stool is normal looking but it is always awful smelling. I have kept all red meat out of his diet because I believed his stool would get worse when I fed it but even on an all poultry and rabbit (raw) diet, his stool is not perfect and I just have a gut feeling that something else is going on.
As an indoor 9 year old, I have no idea how he could possibly have Tritrich. Maybe I'm reading too many posts in the Cat Health threads
but I would feel better testing for it just to cover all my bases here. Other than that issue Malibu seems to be incredibly healthy and I don't expect any surprises with the results of the senior panel although I am, of course, incredibly nervous.
I'm especially anxious about the cystocentesis. My plan is to feed him breakfast at around 9am and not let him have access to the litterbox until after the vet appt, which is at 1pm in hopes that he will have urine in his bladder for them to extract. He usually pees once early in the morning (around 7:30am) and once in the evening (around 5-6pm) so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that he will have enough in there at 1pm.
One last thing that has my stomach in knots over this upcoming vet visit is that this will be the first time that I will be opt-ing out of annual vaccines. I've posted a thread on my concerns about this a while ago so I won't rehash the whole thing but I'm just nervous and I don't want them to think that I'm pompous! I'm walking in asking for a PCR test for Trictrich and denying vaccines because I don't want to over-vaccinate. I just know they're going to think that I'm on the internet too much and that I think I know more than my vet, which is not true (well except the internet part, maybe I am on here a little too much
) I'm just hoping that the visit goes perfectly and I don't make them uncomfortable and vice-versa.
I'll update everyone after our visit tomorrow!!
