Hello! I've neglected to make a intro post so here I am now. I'm Crista and I adopted a cat named Ming from the shelter 6 weeks ago. The shelter thinks he's around 2-3 years old and a siamese (but from my own research, I'm pretty sure he's a Snowshoe cat because of his white paws).

I pretty much begged my parents relentlessly for a cat. I even wrote a letter, detailing why it would be amazing to adopt Ming. I must have visited the shelter more than 8 times in a month, got to know a few cats and fell in love with Ming by my third visit. The first time I took notice of him was when he was playing around with his kibble, throwing it in the air and then eating it. He was also pawing at his water and I watched him for a good 10 minutes, hoping he would look up and we would make eye contact. Of course, he was way too busy and didn't have the time of day for the ape thing staring with wide eyes outside his cage

I knit him a little sweater and he wasn't too happy about it

Thanks for reading!

I pretty much begged my parents relentlessly for a cat. I even wrote a letter, detailing why it would be amazing to adopt Ming. I must have visited the shelter more than 8 times in a month, got to know a few cats and fell in love with Ming by my third visit. My parents saw how much I loved Ming already (it was more like how crazy and annoying I was) and finally, gave in. My mom was the hardest one to crack since she had a lot of worries and cons associated with having a cat. She said a lot of things like, "the litter box will smell!", "kittens are better!", and the funniest of all, "Ming looks fat". Ming is on the heftier side at 14 lbs but he looks fit for his weight! And now, my mom probably loves him the most (aside from myself). She compliments him a lot, saying how beautiful he is, how polite and how well behaved he is. I laugh at her all the time and tease her for turning into a softy.

Ming adjusted quick! The moment I opened his carrier, he was roaming around. I planned on keeping him in our TV room for a week but after an hour or so, he already wanted out. By the end of the day, he had explored most of the home and today, he roams around like he owns the place. He's not a lap cat and doesn't like to be carried, but he'll follow me around everywhere and lay right next to me. Right now, his little bottom is touching my back while I'm typing away on my bed.

I'm excited to have a cat companion and to have someone I'm totally responsible for. Part of the agreement with my parents was I would be taking care of Ming 100% and that also means financially (I'm about to graduate from university and have recently landed a good job so that's exciting too). I'm learning a lot just browsing through the forums and I really appreciate this site. If there's ever a question I am, I always search around here and everybody has great advice and is so helpful :)

And of course, here are some pictures of Ming!

He's a gorgeous boy. It looks like he's settled into his new home very well already.

Nice pictures.

Ming is very handsome.  Bless you for adopting a shelter cat.

I like the little sweater; I think it's adorable.

Congratulations on your graduation and new job!
