Has anyone had a bad reaction to Cheristin flea meds?

We're into flea season here and since I have a severe allergy to flea bites, I have to treat my cat in some way. So what do people here recommend as a safe and effective flea preventative?

I use Frontline Plus or the Pet Armor Plus generic version (contains Fipronil & S-Methoprene). I'm afraid to try anything else, since there are so many horror stories out there.

Update on Luka - he is still falling over but slowly has been adjusting these last few weeks. I dared hope for a recovery but a few days ago he stopped eating. I think his dizziness makes him nauseous. He was only 8.8 lbs before the cheristin but now he is down to 7.5 and not eating. I have been feeding him drops of a really cheap but evidently delicious wet cat food every 2 hours. I just give him a couple bites and take it away and wait for it to digest and give him a couple more. It’s exhausting but it’s the only way I can get him to eat. He has an empty stomach yesterday and spent the day throwing up his water. I am thankful for this site. I fear I may lose Luka and it breaks my heart to read stories of people who did lose their fur loves :(
