Wow, that's a good idea when you're in a pinch! I have a pill cutter I purchased in the pharmacy that I keep just for the cats. It's good to know that a nail cutter would work too!

Never thought to do that! I always use a knife and end up with lots of powdery bits.

I have used Leatherman Super tool pliers and razor sharp Swedish Mora knife (that is great for tangled fur also, point is so sharp that it is very easy to cut out tangled bits, just need to be very careful about cat's skin, slightest touch might cause a cut), that is for anti migraine pills I use and need to cut them to half.

Still it is not very easy as need to use sharp edge of table top, support pill against table top and hold it there with pliers, then use knife to cut it and hopefully other half will not get crushed and other half fly other side of the room.
