The title should say Wellness Canned Price Jump

I have been feeding Wellness canned (chicken and herring and turkey and salmon) with years.  I rotate with a few of the Trader Joe's canned.  I have been purchasing full 5.5 oz cases for a few years from Chewy.com.  Last time I purchased the cases were around $32.  Now it's $40 and $43 on Wag.com.  That is an $8-11 price increase since my last order in January.  Does anyone know what happened?  I expect occasional price jumps, but this is a lot.

I guess I may be in the market for another wet food.  I like the Trader Joe's food, but would like more variety.

No idea why the price jump, but I notice vast differences in prices on-line too.  I always shop around, since I buy by the cases too.  Sometimes I'll find what I'm looking for for around $20 a case, next time at the same place it'll be around $28 or $30, so I just keep looking.  Often it'll actually be a lot cheaper to just run over to Petsmart and buy it there (Nutro Natural Choice).

Did you do on on-line chat with Chewy and ask them about the price increase?  You might try that and see if they'll offer you some sort of discount if you've been ordering with them for years.  Lots of times on-line retailers will work with you (or so I've heard).  Or try other retailers just to see if it's Wellness or Chewy's who've initiated the increase.

I just did a chat.  They said it was out of their control due to manufactures price.  Ugh.  The local pet store who sells it here is almost $50 a case.  Something must be going on.  I just do not want to pay $40 for food that last me not very long.  Hopefully I can find something suitable.

Huh...I just bought a case of 24 of 5.5oz cans for $32.40 from Amazon which is about $1.46 per can with tax.  That's cheaper then what Petco has over here for $2.09+tax for a 5.5oz can which does round out to be $50.16 per 24 can case.  But the Petco price has been like that ever since I adopted my cat in January.

Although Amazon had that at a discount from $40.56 for that case.  After looking, Amazon still has those deals so you can buy it from there if you want.

If you want to find cheaper food, I would recommend Nutro Natural Choice like mrsgreenjeans says.  You can also do Fancy Feast Classic flavors as well which is cheaper yet and a good quality.  There's also Honest Kitchen (I would still recommend feeding it in a rotation with canned) - each 4 pound box lasts 2 months for one cat (depends how much you feed a day - for me it lasts 2 months) for about $43-45 which is cheaper then canned and is raw as well as human grade (they went out of their way to prove it even though it's not required).  My rotation is usually a 3oz can for breakfast, 1/4 cup of Honest Kitchen (+ 1/4 cup of water) for dinner, and a midnight snack with a 1/3 portion of a 5.5oz can which rounds out to be 270-300 calories.

The only one I see on Amazon is the plain Turkey ( green can).  The others are at least $37.99.  My boys don't like the plain turkey very well.  Thanks for the thought.  I have ordered from Amazon as well.  It's just a really huge jump in price.  I will check out the Nutro Natural.

Thanks!

Ooops I was talking about the Turkey & Salmon entree and other minced, cubed, and sliced recipes.  I should of mentioned that.

Some of the other plain ones are cheaper or the same $32.40 with free shipping.  Here take a look:

I've noticed this recently too. I just bought a large can (12.5 oz/354g) of the Turkey & Salmon and couldn't believe the price - $3.99! For one can of cat food! This is a flavour that they used to both like then they went off it a bit, but now they're liking it again. I want it in rotation and I want to buy big cans for budget reasons, but phew, that was a sticker shock. I thought it was just one store being pricey, but it was at the other stores too. Wonder why they've done that? :dk:

The only Wellness in our rotation is the Divine Duos. I haven't gotten any in a bit. I wonder if they went up too. I hope not as they were already expensive at $1.59 US for a 2.8 ounce cup from either of the Pet twins Co and Smart.

Peaches eats mostly the Wellness Turkey and I'm having a hard time affording it. I do try and save tax by going across the river to Oregon but if they keep upping the price I don;t know what I will do. She has IBD and constipation issues and this is the only food that does not have fish in it and does not cause her tummy problems. She is allergic to any fish or fish oils so we are limited on what I can feed her.
