I found ANOTHER mother cat today.   Her name is AJ and she is 3 years old.  I found her in the chicken coop nesting.  I grabbed her and took her to my tree house and put her in a kennel.  I'll try to get pictures of her belly.

These are the Pics I got.  She wasn't into getting pictures taken of her fat belly.  She also has some yellowish liquid stuck to her near her butt.  Anyone know what this is?

Re the dates...  There are three good counting points.  The mating, the day the nipples got clearly rosy (about day 21) and when you began to feel the kittens move - somewhere 3-to 2 weeks before delivery... The big swelling up around week 6,  the total usually 9 weeks or somewhat longer, seldom full 10 weeks.

So, the exact hour is never easy to tell, even if they get the classical signs of milk on teats, the plug goes, they seek around the nest, etc...

That yellow fluid?  Difficult, it may even be urine... Being squizeed from inside, they get it easier to have small accidents.   Lets hope its not pus.

Re your second female you did found and are helping.  It may be best you start another thread for her.  its bewildering to follow two different cats and different pregnancies...  Easier in one each tread.

Tx for caring!

Good luck!

wait, yellow puss like in  lovingly for cat, or yellow puss like in pus, ie bacteria leftowers, -  if the yellow fluid you mentioned in the other thread, if you think its pus for real, so its probably a vet errand!   Begin with taking her temp!   If you phone it will probably the first the vet asks.

Measuren in the armpit of the foreleg it should be about  98F, or 37,5 Celsius.  Somewhat higher in the behind, in a healthy normal cat.

If feverish, it will be higher, and immeidately before delivery - lower.

I have some good news.  She was closer to labor than I thought. SHE IS IN LABOR! XD I should have known.  She has been lethargic all day and licking her butt.  Now she is meowing, and it sounds like she is in pain.  Fingers crossed!  I'll check her before I go to bed tonight.  Hopes for spring break kittens!

So far 1 kitten is half way out. I witnessed its first meow.  Grey and white just like her. It has only been about 30 minutes sense she went into labor.  Is this ok?  I'm nervous! Should kitten birth be so quick?

Yes, kitten birth are usually quicker than human birth.

They can also have some pauses between kittens.  We dont want to have long fruitless labors, but as long it is a calm pause, its no problem.

The first labor is often longer than the half hour you wintessed, but the following labor for next kitten, shall not be be more than perhaps 40 minutes, if its longer, contact your vet asap.

Good luck#

I presume you are well deserved asleep now, after a well done night work.    But please tell how did it go?  Mom and kittens happy??   Owner family happy?

Goodmorning guys. AJ ended up with 2 kittens ( when I get excited I miss count) but I could have sworn that she was trying to have a third! How can I tell if she is still trying to have more? I hope this isn't another trip to the vet.

Well, I found the third kitten. No hind legs.  Dead most likely at birth.
she was on top of it. when she moved herself to the other side of the kennel, I found the poor thing. probably wouldn't have lived anyway.

Sometimes it isnt easy, our forumists are often unsure, because they moms can be swollen in the uterus, and it feels like one more kitten.  They moms can even have some gases, and it may feel alike a kitten moving...

Question- is she done or does she has a pause - but the receipt is simple:   if she has no problems, no active labor, no bleeding, no troubled breathing, no fever, happy with her kittens - you can wait and see.

but If she has any troubles, or active labor longer than 30-40 minutes - you contact your vet.

Easy peasy.   :)

Ps.  Im sorry for the third kittens.  Such happens sometimes, not very often but it happens.    I guess also, some dont tell about it, report only one of the kittens was dead, or similiar...
