Is canned fish cat food safe? I have some cans that are just fish and many that are beef or poultry with fish in them.

The meat ones just say fish. Then the all fish ones are either tuna, ocean whitefish or salmon.

here's an article for you

http://now.tufts.edu/articles/concerns-about-mercury-poisoning-it-safe-give-canned-tuna-cats-treat

"Occasional tuna treats are probably safe, but we advise against feeding your cat tuna-based foods on a daily basis. This can be a challenge, because tuna is a common ingredient in many cat foods, and cats tend to be very particular about which foods they’ll eat. Try replacing tuna-based foods with those made from fish that have lower concentrations of mercury, such as salmon."

This fish and cats deal has been going on for so long, and people think it is what cats eat, and that it is good for them! I don't remember where I was reading about fish in cat food, but a lot of it is fish that is not for human consumption! Either it is old fish, or irresponsible fishing practice - can't remember exactly. I know I will not eat Talapia because more than 90% (or greater) is farmed in filthy waters in China. I got a deal on Chicken of the Sea sardines, and I give my four a treat of those once a week - and I have one too!  I have been reading all I can to find a decent canned food. Lately I resigned myself to Sheba for the time being. I also got some Petco Soulistic, Chicken and pumpkin, no carrageenan, but the other chicken in gele had to have tons of gar gum, because it was like rubber cement!  I check the Chewy's website all the time, because they list all ingredients with each brand and flavor.
