Tomorrow I will be celebrating his first birthday and I wanted to bake my cat some chicken breast as a treat, rather than his kibble.  Does the breast have to be plain, or are there any seasonings I can put on it?  I think I'll put some tuna flakes on the side, a birthday treat I bought him at Petco.  Can the chicken breast replace his dinner, or should I still feed him his normal food and let the chicken just be a special treat.

I don't think it matters, but he is not quite 1.  Tomorrow is the birthday the vet gave him, but he may be a few months shy of being 1.  Yet, I'm going to keep March 16 as his birthday.

PS.  I do know to stay away from all garlic and onions at least :)

No seasonings should be used. You can choose to either give him the chicken as a treat or as a onetime meal. If giving it as a meal, just make sure you give him enough to replace the calories he would get from his regular meal.

Happy birthday to your furbaby!

Thanks.  So maybe I'll give him half a breast and although he probably won't finish it, I'll put his usual kibble in his dish.  He's finicky.  Not a big fan of much except dry kibble and nonfood items :/   I try to give him canned food and he'll eat it but not too much.  But he's had a few bites of chicken before, so I'm sure he'll eat some. :)

Chicken thigh is a little more tasty, as it has a little more fat. My cats eat the chopped off meat raw and then I let them have the raw bone. This batch of my cats have never eaten kibble, only canned or raw like Rad Cat, but I have fed them cooked chicken because they feel that I should share the pan of baked chicken ( and turkey, roast beef, etc.) I hope your cat has a festive birthday!

Thanks.  I'll see what they have at the store tomorrow.  He might not get it until Tuesday possibly.  So his will be unseasoned chicken, and mine will be dipped in bbq, so win win for the both of us.

Perosnally, I would not feed the chicken breast as a while meal. Feed only a small amount as a treat on the side. Half a chicken breast is still too much, IMO. I would only give a few small easy to eat pieces. The rest of the chicken can be frozen and used later for treats.

Weruva makes a great canned chicken in gravy cat food if you want to give it a try. This can be fed as a whole meal. http://www.weruva.com/cat-cuisine-paw-lickin-chicken.php

I share chicken, steak, pork chops, lamb chops, roast beef, etc with my furkids all the time. It's not their meal though. They get a little bit here and there. They hang out by me while I am eating . I have gotten used to eating meats grilled, baked and broiled plain because there's no such thing as not sharing in Lilith's world. Sophie agrees as do Henry and Bailey. Henry gets his share delivered to his room.

I'm going to a buffet with a friend tonight so I gave him a pouch of chicken breast in a pumpkin soup.  He normally isn't into moist food, but this was the first time he ever finished the food and was sniffing around for more.  Guess I'll have to go back to Petco and buy him some more.  Tomorrow I'll bake him the chicken breast and see how he does as well.

Lucky little guy to have a mommy that cooks a birthday meal for him!

If it's only one meal, you can go ahead and give him the chicken instead of a meal.

I gave my kitty chicken breast for her birthday once. She got a half breast and stuffed it into God knows where. On other birthdays I gave her roast pheasant or duck. I've even considered going to a butcher where I heard they kill pigeons fresh for you.

Good luck and happy birthday to your little one.

Our cats love that particular Soulistic food, too. (I recently started buying Weruva's Cats in the Kitchen version, though, because it's significantly cheaper after the price went up at Petco!)

As for the gelee foods, yes, they're pretty firm. Our previous cat loved the chicken one -- it was something she would eat when she was very sick -- but one of our new cats got very (very!) gassy from the fish/chicken food. I think Anne with Cats is right about all the gums.

@Raintyger, wow, your cat is very lucky! Roast pheasant!?

For some reason, even though he doesn't enjoy the majority of moist foods, he enjoys the pouches of soulistic, so he'll continue getting that one.

Wow, roast pheasant or duck, or even a fresh pigeon.  I'm a picky eater so if I'm cooking for my cat it better be something I enjoy.  Needless to say we both ate chicken for dinner tonight.  He really seemed to enjoy the chicken breast tenderloin and tuna flakes.  However his dish wasn't as full as usual with the chicken so I did let him splurge and eat extra cat food as well.  But alas, only for one night.
