My cat would occasionally pant after an intense workout.  I told the vet and he wasn't concerned.  Today though he started panting even sooner than usual.  Yet, he kept trying to play and catch his teaser and jump and perform acrobatics while panting.  I did make him stop though and I was able to get some dishes cleaned.  But we started playing again.  This time he started panting within two minutes of the workout, which was like 15-20 minutes after the last workout ended.  It is 80* in my apt, but where I live, many of us locals find this comfortable.  He is doing fine now, just ate some more food and now is grooming himself.  And if you are wondering, he is a neutered domestic shorthair about 9-12 months of age.

Give your vet a call. If it happens again try to get the panting on video to show your vet.

My Aby used to do this, too. After  running and jumping after toys, he'd lie on the floor and pant and gasp. I took a video and emailed it to the vet. The vet said it was completely normal. You should still take a video and show it to your vet. Maybe you need to cut back on the intense playtime a little and give a longer rest period in between playtime.

I got a video of it again today.  He is acting normal once again, but you can definitely see a pant.  I took him to the vet last night, but their clocks are 5 minutes fast, so needless to say since according to their clock the office was close, I took him home, otherwise I'd pay the after hours emergency fee.
