Hi,
My name is Stacy and today was my first day joining the forums. I had 3 cats already and was so proud of the two new additions I brought home last night I joined.
To make a long story short, I have done private dog rescue for 22 years. S/N vaccines, dewormings and everything entailed in k9 rescue. I never asked for donations, and never charged for my dogs once I found a suitable home.
I got a call from a desperate lady earlier this evening. She is feeding and trying to tame over 30 strays in her neighborhood and begged me to take a couple of the younger ones. I decided maybe I need to so for cats and kittens as I did for dogs.
Well she met me at a store down the road with SIX cats.... I took four. So off course I loaded up on feed and litter and bought two new litter boxes... Lord help me I've already named 3 of the 4. Anyway, I just wanted to share an see if anyone else does out of pocket rescue with cats and would love to hear your experiences

Hi @StacyCats  Thanks for all you are doing for these cats.

I do TNR and rescue too. I live in a very rural part of Japan and there are no shelters or TNR groups around here. I managed to get all the feral cats in my neighbourhood fixed, re-homed lots of kittens and kept the cats that were too old, skittish or just too adorable to send to new homes.

Are you going to keep the new additions or try to re-home them?

I think lots of people who post on here do similar work. Maybe there is someone in your area that you could join forces with? Although I guess if you've been doing dog rescue for so long you've probably got a great network set up already.

Keep us posted on how your new rescues settle in.

Thank you very much! And thank you as well for helping the cats in your area.
I plan on finding homes for the four after they are completely vetted and altered. I want to also take the time to observe them so I can give their new owner a full description of their personality, likes, dislikes etc. I'm also very choosy about where any of my rescues go. If one or two of these girls I find impossible to let go they will stay with me forever as I chose to take this responsibility.
I hadn't even considered my old dog networks! Thanks for the tip, I will use it. Thank you for the support

Hi Stacy, I've had o 1st experience with a feral recently. My new boy and who was was raised as a clinic cat actually brought him in for dinner. My neighbor and I were trying to catch 2 lost cats for friends and he had been eating from the food left for them on my deck by the screen porch. I was moving it slowly from the deck to the screen porch so we could catch them there to go home. Riley started talking with Red and one night followed him in hesitantly for dinner.

It's been slows slow process and he is not yet open to other people but after just under 3 months he's socialized with other cats if a bit jealous and become a lap lover this week. I'm debating whether this is something to get into. It's definitely rewarding to see this guy come along like this.

Major cudos to you for all that you are doing. That takes a special person.

Hi, StacyCats.  Welcome to TCS.  You are doing a manificent job.  I had to laugh when you said you'd already named them - that's either a good sign or bad sign, depending on your perspective!

Many of us use our own money to foster/rescue/re-home kitties.  In our area, many strays and all ferals are put down quickly.  Our local shelter has the attitude that they are better off dead.  It is sad but there are a lot of people here who work underground to save lives.

Keep up the good work.  There is absolutely nothing better than knowing you've saved a life!
