This is going to be a little lengthy but I really need help. My cat gave birth about 17 days ago and the kittens are doing great. We bring the kittens into our living room often just so they get comfortable in that environment, and mama cat always joins. Today we did the same thing and mama kinda stayed away so the kittens just slept peacefully for awhile. Later, mama came in and was pacing around making short little grunting meows (weren't teally vocalized, more of an internal meow) so I brought the kittens to her, thinking maybe she missed her babies and wanted to feed them. When I brought them towards her, they all began to be walk away, not wanting anything to do with mama. She kept pulling them back in though and Eventually got them to start feeding again. She still seems a bit distressed though and the kittens seem almost uncomfortable? Any ideas what the problem could be ?

when did you start bringing them in the living room and how long? I would keep it short like 5 or 10 minutes as they get older you can increase it

When they were around 14 days old. She's had another litter before and we did the same thing and she didn't act like this at all

There is something mom senses or feels upset about with her kids being out and about rather than safe with her in privacy.

It is not needed to bring them out now, and you want to keep mom happy too so I would stop doing this.

Nothing is wrong with the kittens, it is normal for them to wander aimlessly, they are so young.

As long as the kittens are getting interactions with humans they will be just fine, they get their cues from mom anyway and she isn't feral.

Too young to feel good about her kids being apart from her is mom's feelings.
