Hello everyone!

I had a triple whammy this week, three different vet appointments on three different days, two of them turning into what I thought were emergencies. One required carrying a heavy Mo by foot and bus (and he puked en route which was super bad since it was a long trip, and he was quite constipated) and then a cab home to keep him from yarking again; one required wrangling my uncle in to give me a ride and keep the conversation of the visit's price and frequency secret from his wife; and one was just a checkup where I thankfully had my boyfriend to drive.

Long story short, I'm out a small fortune and I'm glad this week is over.
Now a question out of curiosity:

How much does your vet charge for an office/wellness visit?

Mo and Kismet were new patients at this vet (and we love them!) and Mo's was $92 + tax for an office visit, Kismet's wellness visit with vaccines was $120. My avian vet charges $90 on first visits and $60 on rechecks. This is in a large city in Canada. In smaller cities, I've been charged $60 for the first visit (without any testing or vaccinations).

I think I paid around $70 for Robins last yearly check up, which included booster shots.

Without any shots or tests, a simple wellness check is €11.50 (U.S. $ 12). When the other stuff is added, it usually runs about €80 ($84). However, I get a bit of a break on the fees because one of the vets wanted to adopt Mogli herself. She couldn't because he doesn't get along with other cats.

I want to say it's right around $40 or so and that's for one cat with no rabies vaccine or anything else. We usually take at least two (sometimes three) cats in at one time because they will divide the office visit fee amongst the number of cats we bring in. So if we bring in two, then that $40 is divided between the two of them. Again, though, that's just the office visit fee and includes no shots, food, meds, etc.

Both of my kitties are seniors now, one with a chronic health condition, so I rarely get away with just the bare bones basics.  The clinic I go to is cats only and has a certified feline specialist so they are a little higher than the average in this area.

New Patient exam      82 USD

New Kitten exam        55

Existing Patient exam 62

Vaccines                     21 each

Fecal                           26

Deworming                  17 each

Feline Leukemia/

FIV Screening              62

They are one of the few clinics if not the only one in this area that has their routine fees on their website which is where I got the above from.

My four go at the same time for their yearly appointment. My vet does a discount for multiples on the office visit charge. All four were around $311 this year. That was office visits, all vaccines, blood work and nail trimming. I know the feeling about multiple visits in a short time. My oldest was not feeling well so he went in before his annual and then after their annual they all had bowel problems so back again for a full line of fecal exams, prevacid, and probotics. Sadly my cats have more medications in the medicine cabinet than I do.

That is quite rare!

I'm also insanely envious of $12 and $40 office visits. I think if $12 was the norm just to bring a pet to be seen in North America too, more pets would have regular - or even semi regular vet care!

Unfortunately, there are still people who think the vet fees are too high here. One negative aspect of vet care in Germany is that there's no such thing as low-cost spaying/neutering because the veterinarians' association has set minimum prices, and any vet choosing to undercut them will be kicked out of the association. I still find the price reasonable in comparison to the U.S..

Ouch. I got lucky with the cats - Kismet is young and healthy, and Mo (who had bloodwork done last year and the new vet didn't push for a new test) can take over the counter laxatives. The vet said flat out it's a huge pain to get cats to take Lactulose, and we can't really go wrong with generic PEG as long as we can keep things moving that way. The cats are okay, it's the one bird that slays my savings. My animal-loving uncle was able to keep my secret monthly $135 appointments so my aunt can't tattle to my mother. If she did, I'm sure she'd convince her that I was taking the bird to the vet instead of buying food.

Are other procedures more expensive in Germany or do they seem about par with the regular speuter prices? It sounds very reasonable to me, but hey, the grass is always greener. We'll always look forlornly at things we can't have.

Wow, $650! The last vet we took Mo to for annual, geriatric blood panel (urinalysis results were part of it), cystocentesis, and sedation (apparently he was getting really stressed when they tried to take blood) charged $390 for it. No vaccines either. The new vet did say Mo would need a dental at some point soon, but I didn't ask about the cost (maybe out of fear
).

I recently paid $800 +/- for 2 wellness visits, whatever vaccinations were needed, claw trims (complimentary) and one full dental with 3 tooth extractions including an overnight visit for poor Casper.

$70 for an annual exam that does not include vaccinations. And that's just for cats. When I had gerbils, it was around $100 for a exam... and I was there every month because my gerbils needed their teeth trimmed or had some other ailment
This is a large vet hospital / vet ER that is open 24/7. It's basically just like a Human hospital with all the various specialty services and equipment but for various species of pets
When I used the low cost clinic years ago it was $35 for a basic exam for a cat.

I've been to the vet so much in the last year 3i should know this by heart!

Mooch was the last for an office visit and that was $52. Blood work was $208 and the meds varied. She has to get blood work repeated this week but I can just take her in for it; so no charges for an office visit or anything. If they have ever given me an adjustment for bringing two at once I wasn't aware of it!
