Hi
We have a new kitty that adopted us you could say about two weeks ago she is a sweet heart and is very affectionate....but we noticed that she is pregnant but can't tell how far along she is very big now and her kittens seemed to have moved lower in her belly and she has chosen the bathroom cabinet as her nesting place. She will only come out to use the bathroom I have to take her food/water to her.she also acts likes she wants me near her. She is purring very loudly and is breathing heavier and faster. Also she seemed to be having contractions before and I started taking her temp. It was 99 then went back up to 100.7. Any ideas on her maybe time line. Thank u very much in advance and also we plan to keep her and spray her as soon as possible she is the sweetest little cat.

Several changes that may be noticeable in the queen the last week before delivery include a distended, 'dropped' abdomen, enlarged and softened vulva, enlarged nipples, and full mammary glands. Loss of appetite and nervousness alternating with sleep also indicate the time is near.

Still no kittens poor thing she is still eating an drinking fine and she doesn't seem to be in any pain and she doesn't have any milk. Is it normal for her temp to be going up and down so much. Her temp was 98.3 for two readings four hours apart yesterday but went back up to 100 and now at 99.4

Honestly it doesn't sound like she is quite ready to deliver.

It's always such a waiting game.

Her temp is never in the fever zone at all, so try not to keep taking her twmp so often, it will make you crazy.

Once a day is plenty, if even that much really.

She will let you know when she is very close :)

Do you have access to a good vet?  Not all vets are experienced with obstetrics.     Do you have possibility to phone and ask?

Do you feel the kittens move? Did you felt them how long?   Do you measure the temp in the behind?  If so, it has got lower.  But if you do measure in the armpit of the foreleg, its steady where it usually is.

What makes me worry, is we thought one week ago its near, yet its still the waiting game.

So, either you were too optimistic in your descriptions (dropped etc), and it wasnt at all so near.   Or she by some reason is late with the delivery.

As long she is OK,  I too dont think she is in danger.  But Her kittens may.  Although, if you missread the situation and make a cesarean too early, THIS will be dangerous for the kittens.

That is another reason where access to an good vet and experienced in obstetrics is very useful.

Good luck!

This will be three weeks since I felt the little ones move and and two and half weeks since u could see them move easily. And yes I have taken it in her rectum. I was concerned not bc of a fever bc her normal temp is 102. I was just wondering if it's normal for her temp to fluctuate so much and it has not gone back up to her normal for at least a week. And yes I have a vet but he does not know much about pregnancy in cats well dealing with them anyway.

Yes, its surely best.    If it will be talk about  cesarean, its OK - no danger for the kittens to be premature.

You felt them move tree weeks ago, do you felt them move the whole time now?   The last day when they drop they arent as movable, but...

Anyways, I alike you, I hope for the best, but i dont feel sure.

Holding thumbs!

I think the case may be, and is VERY common when anticipating delivery, is that perhaps when looking too hard for signs of labor, you might believe you are seeing them.

I think she is near ready, and actually can start active labor at any time now, but don't think she is late.

Just remember that it is extremely rare for a cat not to go in to labor when they are ready to be born.

Cesarean birth is performed when active labor will not produce babies for whatever reason, but not in all my years of rescue and prego mom/baby care have I ever had a mom NOT go in to labor, they just hold out until they are good and ready.

Better for the babies too, as they are only still in the oven to gain weight now :)

I think she will be just fine. Her behavior is not showing distress at all, so unless you see some dramatic change happen, ie: blood, crying, active labor with true distress signs (you will know) or suddenly acting sick, try not to be worked up about what's to come, save it for the actual delivery in case she needs your help/support :)
