Hello again!  While looking up something for my other cat, Jinx, I noticed a description of something else that fits another of my cats.

Patches has black gunk in his ears.  Is this... normal cat ear wax, or could it be mites?  The thought makes me twitchy and itchy.  -.-;  I've never SEEN anything moving in his ears, and he doesn't really groom with the other cats.  We have a groomer come to shave him down often, and she's pretty knowledgeable, so I'll ask her as well.  She also bathes him and cleans his ears out.  I try, but I don't know how to do it like she does.  I need to ask her what she uses.

You will not see moving bugs. They are much too small.

Rather than brown goop from simple dirty ears, mites look more like coffee grounds.

I don't know the difference between ear mites and ear wax for cats.

However, my cat once had this horrible brown/black things all over his ear, I cleaned it twice daily but everyday it would just spread like I've never cleaned it, until one vet actually told me that because I was triggering the ear by cleaning his body would react and produce ear wax. I used to drop the ear cleaning and use cotton swaps to clean it. But after what the vet told me I changed my method and it worked, I know longer need to clean his ears.

Here's my new method:

I pour the cat ear cleaning solution on a cotton round jut to soften it up, then I wipe his flap only both inside and outside just make sure you use new cotton round for each side.

No need for it to cleaned 100%, I did this method for about a week and wow his ears are clean ever since, no need to clean them, I occasionally clean his ear with cat ear wiped every now and then even though they are 100% clean.

Earmites look like Coffee grounds with little whitish specks , my kitten had bacteria in her ears when I got her that produced blackish/brownish gunk that looked very similar to mites and I had to flush her ears with Keto Tris Flush +ps

This is what a vet sees with a scope.

It's disgusting really, and listen to what the cat hears!!

Okay... yeah... that was GROSS!  Poor kitties!

So, thankfully, it's just brown goop.  I'll take your advice and clean his ears like you said, Mum of two.  Thanks so much!

I'm pretty sure it's just an excess of ear wax.  I looked down in his ears, and there's nothing like that.  The black stuff is waxy, not crumbly.  But.... ugh!  That video... I'm going to have NIGHTMARES!

With Patches, everything is just fine, thank you for asking.  ^_^  He just got groomed (he looks like a bebe lion!) and his ears are nice and clean.  It's simply an abundance of ear wax.  When it starts building up again, I have some cotton patches that I can use to clean his ears.
