Raw for FIV+ Cat? Or a good canned food?

My cat Zephyrus has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and our vet recommended we stop feeding raw, as it is more likely to give him an infection. I feed my other FIV- cats a raw and canned food diet, and Zephyrus has always loved it, but I don't want to make him sick.

Does anyone have experience feeding raw/cooked meats along with canned food to an FIV + cat?

If it is a bad idea to pursue feeding him the raw diet, what canned foods can help a cat put on weight?

Feeding him a complete and balanced good quality diet that he eats well and enjoys is the main thing. Try a variety of cans and see what he gravitates toward. Some foods (like Merrick) come in a wide variety and are pretty nutrient-dense, for example, as is GO! Check the feeding guides on the cans and figure out how much this cat needs to be eating over the course of the day. Some foods, like Weruva, are fantastic, but not great as a sole food source for most cats. Most veterinarians recommend against feeding a raw diet, and for many good reasons. If his immune system is already supressed, he's going to be more vulnerable to bacteria and infection. On the other hand, some food is better than no food and the bottom line is that this fella eats.

That's true. he isn't a good weight. It's possible he will end up getting both upper canines extracted as well, which means he'll be on a canned diet most likely .
