The pet rescue group I work with, Pet Pro Life, had a cat, Sweetie, returned to us after 5 years of adoption. The reason being that the people could no longer deal with the chronic diarrhea - watery stool, sometimes with mucus.
Sweetie is very appropriately named - very loving kitty who must now live in a kennel instead of the warm embrace of a home.
Sweetie has been to see 3 respected veterinarians and the following is a brief description of the treatments tried:
Tests (Fecal Flotation) for parasites - none found
Dewormed with Droncit
CBC + BCP + T4 tests - all normal
Treated with antibiotic Baytril
Treated with Viokase - pancreatic enzyme
Treated with Seacure - amino acid
Surgically searched for cancer - none found
Treated with Flagyl - slight improvement
Treated with Presnisolone
So we've had her back for a few months and aren't having any success either. Options still on our list to try include slippery elm, further surgical investigation.
I'm wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences and could offer some insights on how to treat, how to cure would be perfect, how to provide a good quality of life for her if this is not treatable.
