My cat has severe allergies to everything. He is on antihistamines and allergy shots.

Lately his eyes have been bothering him. The vet prescribed an eye ointment with both a steroid and antibiotics in it. If anything his eyes look worse after he gets the ointment put in. He starts squinting and the third eyelid starts showing. Maybe it causes sensitivity to light?

He really hates the ointment and puts up a fight about it.

We tried eye lubricants before this and he hated those too. This is his second night on the ointment. I would like to use it for at least a week and see if his eyes improve.

Any tips for administering the ointment? He possibly had herpes as a kitten and had to get eye drops twice daily for two weeks as a youngster.

Could this be a reactivation of the herpes virus? Can that cause itchy eyes? As a kitten he only had eye discharge, never itching.

Whatever this is causes extreme itchiness! He would try to rip his eyes out if not for the e collar.
