Last Thursday, my cat started bleeding from her rear end a little bit every now and then.  Friday and Saturday she acted normal with the bleeding increasing a bit.  On Sunday and Sunday night, things went downhill very fast.  She seemed to lose control of her back legs, urinated seemingly without control, and acted extremely strangely.  We took her to the vet first thing Monday morning, and he told us that she had two heart murmurs, some signs of kidney problems, and the bleeding got worse but he could not find anything in particular.  He gave us the option of running more tests that would cost about $1000-1500, but we just can't afford that.  He didn't give her very good chances of making it, and recommended putting her down.  We decided to take her back home with some steroids and make her as comfortable as possible and let it play out.  She is 14, and until this happened acted perfectly normal and healthy.  She went from acting fine to seeming near-death in just a few days.  I'm just wondering if anyone here can give any ideas as to what might be wrong; I'm afraid it's cancer, but I'm surprised that it would happen this fast.  We're shocked out how quickly things happened, and not even the vet can tell us what's wrong for sure without testing that we simply can't afford.  Any help is appreciated.

So sad. Please get another opinion, don't put her down.

Try to get an opinion here as well:

http://www.allexperts.com/el/Ask-Veterinarian/

But only ask a vet, some of the people on the page are not vets.

Also, look for charities that will help, other members might know some of them.

Look for other vets that will do the tests much cheaper than them.

Please update us.

EDIT:

My 6 year old male cat once had blood too, vet said it could be worms, so he gave him deworming tablet, and he was fine.

Problem is I don't even know if she's going to make it through the night; she can barely even lift her head up anymore and I can't even say for sure that she recognizes us.  It's been astonishing just how fast she's gotten worse.

I should also mention that the blood is tarry and just leaking out and she has also lost control of her bladder.  Her gums are pale as well; hopefully this is just dehydration, but we have been syringing water and a mix of food the vet gave us and water into her mouth.

rfitz276, there's no cure for this to be found on the Internet. Your cat is bleeding to death in front of your eyes. If YOU had uncontrolled internal bleeding, you'd eventually lose control of your bladder and your lips would pale as well.

Can you at least get her to a Vet who will help her cross over quickly and peacefully ?

(you are very likely to cause her to choke by continuing to assist-feed/hydrate....that would be quite traumatic for her and you)

I'm devastated to say that she passed at about 8 tonight.  I know people probably disagree with me, but I'm glad I made the decision not to put her down and give her a chance.  Last night and this morning she seemed in good spirits and a little better, but it was clear by tonight that she was all but gone.  It's been very hard on me as I had an extremely strong bond with her like I haven't with any other pet.  Sad to see her go, but she lived long.

I'm very sorry your poor cat deteriorated so quickly... unfortunately this is common in animals since they tend to hide any illnesses as much as possible. At least she is not in any pain anymore. I think you made the right decision for you and your cat. Everyone faces that choice at some point in their life, and it is truly a judgement call that is what YOU feel is the best for you and your pet. After all, you know your cat better than anyone else. I'm sorry you had to lose her. <3
