I've talked about Midnight in other threads. This cat is very disobedient  and won't listen no matter how many times I scold him and take him off of stuff he doesn't belong on. My computer desk sits in front of a window, really the only place I have to place it. He keeps jumping up on the desk, my subwoofer, knocking my speakers off and keyboard, pushing my monitor and getting atop my computer or the table my computer sits on. This was expensive hardware, stuff I don't have the money to replace should they somehow manage to destroy it. The rooms are too small to sit in comfortably especially when I have company over. That's why I don't use the spare bedroom for anything and it's the cat room.

I don't know what else to do to get him to behave. He's in heat so he wants to get up and look out the window, he won't go to any other window and is determined to only look out the window my desk sits in front of. I can't spray him with water since it's near expensive computer hardware I don't want to short out. When he wants to get up in the window he's obsessive about it and right back up there no matter how many times I put him down on the floor and scold him. Since he's doing it other cats are starting to follow suit i.e. copycats. I woke up this morning and a kitten was sleeping on top of my computer tower. The computer is open on the top because there's a fan for ventilation on top. If they are wet and drip down that or urinate/defecate on it I can say bye to my computer system. I was putting a garbage bag over the top but it was tedious to do that everytime I left the house and went to bed. They seem to all want to invade my space, the moment I get up from my computer chair there are cats on it to sleep. They get on my desk to sleep or look out the window..  help me. :/

He has the most hideous cry for a cat I've ever heard heat or no heat, even worse when he's in heat. I'm working on getting him and others in for spaying/neutering. Despite this I still wouldn't let him out or throw him or any of them outside on purpose.

Boy cats don't go into heat. Girls do. Has he been fixed? Could there be a female in heat outside your house that's close by that he knows is there?

Is there such thing as an "obedient" cat??

Mine run my house and they have instructed me to like it so I do.

Please don't spray him with water even if there isn't computer equipment nearby. it doesn't work and will only cause him to resent and lose trust in you.

I have a printer that Sophie likes to sit on. Since I would prefer that she not do that and asking nicely doesn't help, i took some bubble wrap and placed it on the printer where she likes to sit and taped it on. She no longer sits on the printer.

There are ways of getting a cat to do things without punishing them. Jackson Galaxy has a lot of videos on Youtube that can help you. Good luck.

Can you pull the desk a bit farther back into the room and put a narrow table/bookcase/shelf between it and the window? If you put a soft towel or blanket on top, the cats would have a place to sit/lie and look out without being all over your computer equipment.

It's difficult to know what and what not to do with cats. There's mixed feedback around, some saying spraying with water is okay but not spray in it their face/eyes and others that say not to do it. How do I know which side is right? I can't do much for the top of my computer since I can't cover up the top since heat needs to escape when I'm running the system. The window is mostly the reason they get up there.

I heard males do go in heat. The one I have, one of my parents becomes more affectionate and rolls on the floor and does cat calls.  Well yeah.. there's females nearby. I took in six feral kittens to care for, socialize, litter train, spay/neuter and eventually find homes for. Out of six kittens there are two females. I have two of my own cats, Midnight and Paully who is a year old Polydactyl cat. I'm getting one female in for spaying this Friday and the other will be going in next month. The remainder of the males will be going in the following months. It's a slow process, SPCA is booked and they only ever have two openings in a month if that. Looking into other options to speed up the process and get them all spayed/neutered.

Male cats don't exactly go into heat, but when the females are in heat they do know it and act differently. So since it's spring and all the ladies are in heat, I'm sure he's just dying to get out and meet some of them! Do keep him and the other males away from the female who isn't getting spayed until next month; it's a pretty sure thing she'll be going into heat soon if she hasn't already. I'm sure the last thing you need is more kittens!

The biological urge to mate is very strong, stronger than any punishment, and I'm not sure you'll see much improvement before he's neutered. I think I would try to keep the tomcats away from the computer equipment entirely, they may spray on it and ruin everything. Since he's the pestiest, try to get him neutered first, before the less pesty males. Maybe that will improve matters. But cats are cats and don't exactly listen to us puny humans ;).

One of the females has been spayed. SPCA made a special exception since she got pregnant and I couldn't house any more cats. I don't believe any of the indoor cats got her. She got outside and disappeared for a few days and that's when I think she got plugged. Obtaining openings for the discount spay/neuter clinic is a slow process. They are telling me once again nothing they can do until May. So nothing every month since January until may. I'm hoping to get the other female in. She was in heat but I don't think they got her, she shows no signs of pregnancy so I think all is good until next month. I wanted to get these cats in as soon as possible so I could trap a couple of the feral females outside and get them in to try nipping this in the bud.

Midnight, the cat I am referring to has always been odd. This recent behavior came about when he matured and started going into heat or whatever male cats do. I fell in love with him and his brother - his brother came up missing last October. I've been trying to keep him in and sometimes it's nigh impossible - you would have to understand the type of home I'm in and the layout. Only two rooms has a door on it, my bedroom and the bathroom. The bathroom is too small to shut him in and I don't want to stink up my bedroom, he would need access to the litterbox and food/water and I'm not about to put a litter box in my room. I would prefer him to stay in because when he gets out I worry about him and that he would come up missing like his brother.

As I said he is an oddball. His meow is like no other cat I've heard. It sounds like a wailing banshee or something equally horrific but that's his normal cry. He obsessively grooms my face. He is quite a cuddlebug and will cuddle with me in bed with his head nuzzled under my chin stretched out. Sometimes he will sleep cuddled by my side in bed but he's usually sleeping on me until I need to turn over - near impossible for me to sleep lying on my back. He demands lots of attention. He adopted me as his owner and I fell in love with him, he made sure of that.  I've never seen a cat like him. His original owners don't know what they gave up and I can't believe they would throw him out and abandon him like that. It's a common thing with neighbors here. They get a cat then don't want the responsibility of caring for it so they throw it out. There's people that drive through and drop off cats. He's mine now and will have paperwork to show for neutering and shots. He's grown attached to me as I have with him and don't want someone to rip him away from me. Even the ferals have grown attached to me which is amazing considering they were six to eight months old when I took them in. They are like any other cat now. :)

You need to keep any intact males away from the intact female until you get either/or fixed. Sounds like it will be easier to put the intact female in a room by herself. If you choose not to do this, you will end up with another pregnant female. No need for her to go thru the pain of mating only to endure a spay/abort later.

Hoping the SPCA can get the others in sooner than later!

I could've had them all in by now. Sigh.  I am watching the other female hoping she doesn't go into heat again. I would have to figure out something if she does.

Oh and I was not happy this morning. Heard a loud crash when I was sleeping, ran out and saw one of them knocked over my monitor. Thankfully they did not damage it. They all seem to have an obsession now with getting on the desk to look out of the window. They'll get behind the monitor and curtain to look outside. No other window interests them like this one does. No matter how many time I scold them or put them on the floor they don't get it. It started with one of them and now the others followed suit. I'm finding out the term copycat has truth to it lol. I'm hoping the computer tower won't be next. That goes crashing to the floor the entire system will be trashed. A lot of data I can't afford to lose since I have no internet to redownload. I'm talking several (over 200) PC games purchased and other files I've archived, stuff I no longer have sufficient internet to download again.

If I could move it to another room cats didn't have access to I would. My home has three rooms. The master bed, spare bed and bathroom. Living room and kitchen are connected and open, only two rooms with doors.

Maybe he just likes looking outside at the activity or likes the sun. I know my cat likes to lay in the back bedroom window sometimes.

Just an FYI, she doesn't have to go into heat in order to get pregnant. The way it works is when the male does the deed, it stimulates an egg to release. So, all it takes is for a male and a female to be of mature age. Best to keep her separated until she is spayed.

I think the only sure way to prevent a cat from climbing onto a surface is to make it impossible, or at least very difficult, for the cat to do so. Maybe you could get a mesh-like cloth that you could drape tightly over the top of the computer equipment that prevents the cat from finding a secure surface, while allowing adequate airflow for the equipment. Those spiky plastic mats are also usually effective. Some people have had success with double-sticky tape or aluminum foil.

I did not know that. Wow. As I said there is conflicting information all over the place. However I haven't seen any of them trying to mount her when she isn't in heat.

Can you move your computer from the window? Or cover the window so they can't look out of it?

I never put anything breakable under a window!

I wish. That's literally the only spot in my living room to put it. I've had something covering the window however it doesn't seem to do much good.
