My cat has only thrown up once in her life so far (she's almost 4)

This week we switched her wet food from Fancy Feast to Sheba because she had a can once before and loved it. This morning after eating her breakfast she threw up a huge amount, then threw up again after eating it for dinner in a few spots around the house. They were two different cans of food so I know it wasn't an issue of one being contaminated.

I'm really worried and wondering how to proceed or if she needs to go to the vet asap or if it could just be the Sheba not agreeing with her?

Did she gobble it? How long after eating did she vomit? What was the protein source of the cans......allergy? How old are the cans of food.....best by?

I just bought the cans yesterday at Pet Smart and they all have 2016 expiration dates. She ate half for breakfast then vomited 2 hours later and was fine the rest of the day. Then upon being fed the second half of a new flavor for diner she vomited about 2 hours after that one in several places around the house.

She is drinking lots of water since and I am trying some of her normal fancy feast since she's hungry to see if she holds it down. I feel like a terrible Mom!

A State of Confusion
When I was trying different wet foods to find one that all four of my kitties would all eat, I tried one with beef in it. Within five minutes of putting it out, Tiny puked up what looked like a whole can of half-digested food. It wasn't until the second time that happened that I finally realized that it was a beef allergy. Yours doesn't sound like an allergy to me since it took so long before she threw up. If the switch back to the old food stops the vomiting, then it's probably the new food. Switching all at once can cause problems sometimes. You might try mixing in something like a quarter can of Sheba with the full can of FF and see if that causes problems. If not, try 50/50, then 75/25, and finally full Sheba. If your baby gets sick at some point along this progression, then probably the Sheba doesn't agree with her for whatever reason, and you'll have to try something else as an alternate.

Whenever a cat throws up after eating a new food the generally advisable thing to do is go back to the old food.  It's unlikely the new food is bad, just that she isn't tolerant of it.

I switched her back to her normal FF and the throwing up has stopped. She is also drinking ok, so I think i'll be safe not calling the vet this time but am keeping a close eye on her.

Great!  Sounds like problem solved.
