I've had this cat for 5 Years and she is the kindest, sweetest and the most chill cat. She is spayed, micro chipped and declawed. (Not an putside cat) She comes with every shot record and is up to date on all her vaccines. The only reason we can't keep her is because she has allergies and I just can't afford her meds/treatment on a college budget anymore. Over the past 2 years we've tries Diff vets, sulfur dip, sprays, pills, cones and changed food twice. She's great with kids and other dogs, I got her from the humane society at 6 weeks old. Besides her vet costs (and them not knowing whats wrong), shes perfect. I'm very sad to see her go but I literally can not afford it anymore. She's been my baby for a long time and I just want her to go to a home that will love her like I did. Someone in Austin please help me :(

Get on those free 'swap shop' type shows on the radio where they buy and sell things, and give your story, I've found a lot of homes for cats on those. You might change the food again, twice isn't enough to try. My heart is breaking because she is going to be so scared and alone for a while, PLEASE call a couple of vets and see if there are 'allergy' pills available. Try this site under cat health and see what other people have come up with. Good luck, I pray everything comes out all right!

I've been dealing with this for 2 years. In my post it said we've seen several different vets and tried countless allergy meds. I need an Avenue I haven't exhausted yet

If you've only changed foods twice, that's an avenue you haven't exhausted yet. Were the foods you tried grain-free? Were they some kind of unique protein, like rabbit, kangaroo, venison, or the like? Did you try dry, canned, or a combination? Our cat is allergic to chicken and all grains, but we've managed to find several foods he can eat; the brands won't help you because they're European, but something like Wild Calling could be used for an elimination diet. Some of our members make their own cat food; you can read about the proper way of doing it in the Raw & Home-Cooked Cat Food forum, in particular

I know you said you have tried everything but your cat could be allergic to something in the food and not just the protein. My cat is allergic to peas in canned food and she is also allergic to any kind of fish or fish oil in canned food which makes it very hard for me to find foods she can eat. She also has IBD and a lot of things upset her stomach.

I have feral cats that can't eat anything with Brewers yeast or Brewers rice in it or they will start pulling fur out like crazy. Some have even become bald before I figured out that the one thing in common in all the foods was the Brewers yeast and Brewers rice. They now are on Merrick Purrfect Bistro dry food and Friskies canned food and all have beautiful coats again.

I wish you the best of luck, I feel so bad for your kitty.

I hear you, really! When I adopted my cat, he cost me 400 $ in veterinary visit and tests in the first week, and I was determined to bring him back, because I realized I couldn't take care properly of a sick cat. If there is a medical issue, unfortunately love is not enough!

I have been lucky because, thanks to random people and a veterinary assistant I found out that it was an allergy to grain and it was easy, but the veterinary didn't catch it, and I think didn't even think about.

Anyway, I'm not an expert or a veterinary, so I'm talking as 'profane' and moved by curiosity:

Why are you sure that is an allergy?

What are the symptoms?

Food allergy is common in cat, but it's not the only one possible, could be a reaction to chemicals, grass, pollen...etc. I suppose presence of diarrhea and blood in the feces could be associated with something ingested, while skin reaction and running eyes and nose could be related with different allergens. For example, you mention that the cat is with you since 5 years, while the health problem appeared in the last two years, if I understood right, so what changed? A food allergy would not wait three years to show its symptoms (I think).

Well, I wish you to find a good home for your cat, and the best for her!

Have you treated her for fleas? Even if she is indoor only, there is ALWAYS the chance she could get fleas.

Any change in laundry detergent, softeners? Any plants in the house?

What about litter? I have a cat that developed an allergy to clay litter after 1 1/2 yrs.

What medications has she been on? Have you tried steroids? If yes and she improved, then the issue is environmental, not food.

Thanks to let us know more about your little cat issues.

So she has not diarrhea or blood in the feces? It could be a skin condition.

As CatPack suggests, could be a reaction to parasites, or also a reaction to chemicals as anti-parassite, or a shampoo.....or other factors she could be exposed to. Fleas allergy for example can be associated with blood spot on the skin of the cat (flea are mainly done of blood)!

Of course, there can be many other factors resulting in dermatite, as neurological condition or stress etc...but I think you are the best person to know more of possible factors and her behavior and "style of life"

There are any free consultancy veterinary in your area?  When I was living in the US I saw many great vet offering free help.
