I can't take it with me I'm a lifeguard and swimming teacher 2 of my 5 hours will be in the water the rest cleaning or sat on poolside. I called in and took a day off Monday when she was born and the vets were trying to get her breathing properly. My boss was not impressed and "it's only a cat" came up... I can't imagine taking one to work would go down well.

I see.  If you dont have a stand in, you can always leave her with her mom, who is doing what she can, and hope for the best.

The cat rescuer is a friend so if push comes to shove I shall beg and plead for her to take over while I'm at work it's all I can think of. I have to go to work to pay off the £480 vet Bill this kitten has worked up already!

This would be definitely the best solution.  As she both knows how to do it, and is used to manage stressed momma cats.

And your boss?  I understand he is not the first to say so and take such a stand. But I still dont like it, and its not OK.  Sorry to say so, but I cant stop.  I hope God will forgive him, because I cant.  Im not a catholic saint, and thus, I wont forgive him this.

Mummy and baby it's been 40 mins since I got 0.4mls in baby and so far when it's sleeping it moves around and twitches as opposed to laying on its side and looking dead. And for the first time since 8.30am I have stopped crying so I must either be getting used to it or feeling a little more positive. It won't suck off mum at all now so I'm leaving her to do the cleaning and poo removal and I'm feeding with hope that when kitten gets stronger it will want to feed from mum again. I'm milking mum by hand occasionally to keep her prodducing it.

My boss is a she and she hates me anyway... One person I work with said "so did your cat die then?" Before I even signed in on Tuesday... I nearly punched her too. I can understand if you are not an animal person really but they wouldn't say it if it was a human child.

Lets hope so.

Momma seems to be a Ragdoll Bicolor?   Baby seems to be a point too (the point will come with time) so I suppose the baby is purebred she too?

- what is their names btw?

Sending all *wibes!* and prayers  I can.

Yes the mum is a ragdoll and so is the baby. I haven't given baby a name as I'm already too attached and I don't want to get my hopes up. Mum is called Skye pedigree name tumblerag Delano. Dad was a seal colour point and I'm guessing this kitten will also be a seal. It's only 3 days old yet it's ears and tail are going Brown already. I have only ever bred either blue colourpoints or blue tortie points in the past and blues don't normally get colour this early. Fingers crossed this baby makes it... If she does she is staying here with me... After all this I know I won't be able to let her go!

3.30 had another 0.4mls I don't want to push more too soon maybe try for 0.5 tomorrow fingers crossed I'm doing everything right I have hand reared abandoned birds in the past but this is my first kitten!

I have never had to deal with feeding one this young before so from what I've been reading, you are doing an excellent job. I know there is still a long way to go but it believe the baby will make it.

As far as your boss and co-worker goes, they both need a punch or TWO!!! I've had to deal with people like that too and it really pisses me off to no end!!

You are correct when you said they wouldn't say that if it were a human child. I agree with @StefanZ, this can't be forgiven. I get very angry when non-animal people talk about pets like that, to those of us who love and care for them they are loved as much as our human children.

On a lighter note.... Skye is beautiful!! I've always loved Ragdolls and wanted one. Hmm maybe one day

Kitten was back at the vets this morning it's lost weight again last night and is now down to 2.1oz :( the vets have given her another fluid injection as she is still dehydrated and some more glucose. She has been getting roughly 0.5 or 0.6mls every hour. I will have to start trying for the 1ml an hour

Yes.. as said, she needs about 20 ml a day.  Apparently she gets very little from mom, if anything.  So its mostly comfort, and perhaps some colostrum.

She is still with us, so we continue to fight, and continue to pray.

*vibes!*

She no longer sucks from mum at all she will cuddle with mum and mum will clean her but despite my best efforts I can't get her to suckle off mum. I still can't get her to accept any food so I'm having to force feed as best as I can

People are disgusting. Try to ignore these sorts b comments. Just shows the level of intelligence. Don't bring yourself down to their level.
Be proud of yourself. You're doing a great job.

Good news at 2am this morning the kitten started to suck on my syringe! Progress! Weight is back up to 2.3oz and I went to feed her this afternoon and she had beaten me to it... Happily suckling from mum! I'm still putting a small amount in by syringe as I don't know how much kitten is getting from mum ... How do I know when to stop helping and let mum go it alone?

When she is gaining steadily.  She is a little one, so its not sure the will hit the 10+ grams at once she turned around.  8 is more reasonable.  If she does, you can let mamma continue.

When she hits the steady minimum of 6g a day (ist 0,2 OZ I think), its OK for such a little, but dont stop too early, as she has such small margins, being small from beginning, and going downwards several days running.

Dont take any risks on here, as she dont has much margins.  Play it safe.

Im very happy at this update.  If it is mom got her milk at last, or simply, she is suckling strong enough now, we can discuss.  But apparently this has happened now.

Just to proceed, and continue to pray!   " The watched over is protected by God" as the proverb tells.

Mum had milk from the beginning just kitten wouldn't nurse... She did for the first day then stopped after that. But I knew mum had milk as I have been milking her to get some on the end of the nipple to entice kitten to suck. I think dehydration stopped kitten from wanting to eat. I know when I'm suffering from dehydration (hangover) I don't want to eat either but have to so I feel better :)

Also I'm worried that I will over feed if I keep giving kitten 1ml per hour and she is feeding from mum too... And I don't want to feed her so she is full to discourage her from suckling on mum. What if I did 1ml per 2 hours and then made sure I witnessed her suckling in the hour in between. Hopefully she gains tomorrow as I will have had 2 days at 2.3oz but I guess staying the same is better than loosing. I hope the reason she has stayed the same is so far the milk she has had needed so go into her body to dehydrate and now she is hydrated the milk will be used for growth :)

All very true. But observe, in normal cases even staying at the same point two days running is an Alert flag by itself, everyone running around.

One day may be excused and need just extra obesrvations.  but two is Alert.

I understand your reasonings, but as long as she isnt steady gaining, Alert flag is on.

We have had recently a perhaps similiar case, about abandoned 5 kittens.   they were smallish them too, and she had no proper kmr in the beginning, and somewhat dubious later on.  Aand it took several days before they began to gain.  But after some days they did began to gain, and seemed to develop nicely.  The heroine TS there has stopped to report, so I dont really know what happens now, but as said....   The TS there had difficulty to find an useful kmr, but this physical development, or lack of development, was quite  striking...

Perhaps a parallell?
