Cat tree/furniture for fully declawed cat?

I just adopted a 4 year old ragdoll who is fully declawed.

I'd love to have something for her to climb and play on but I'm not sure what will work for her, being rather large and without any claws for gripping.  The only online advice I can seem to find is to get a cat tree with closer platforms, or steps and ladders, or something that could accommodate older cats with less agility.  I'm a new cat owner and feel rather bewildered by all the options and the lack of information.

For that matter I can't find anything else about fully declawed cats except for why cats *shouldn't* be declawed.  Too late for that, and it wasn't my choice.  So I'd love any information or experience anyone has had in a similar situation!

Thanks!

First of all, congrats on adopting a 4 year old kitty!! :)

I would have to agree with the info you've found so far: closer platforms, ladders and such.

As for declawed cats, they do require a little more attention. I don't have direct experience but from what I've read on this site, cat litter can be an issue, since they are declawed, they can become sensitive to litter types. You're going to want to choose a litter that it soft and easy on the paws. I think "yesterdays news" is what's normally recommended.

Hopefully some other people can add to this, and give you further advice about the care of a declawed kitty :)

Welcome!

Definitely looking for something around $100, or less.  Anyone done a DIY tree?  I'm not sure if it's worth the time and effort.

I've been looking at several of the Kitty Mansion trees - does anyone have one and any thoughts on them?

Sometimes the really tall trees are on sale at PetSmart, so maybe keep your eyes open there.

Amazon has good deals as well. I got one from them and one from Kohl's. If you have a Kohl's card, they are running their monthly deal right now until the 15th. Use code SHOWERS30 for 30% off any item on sale or not. if the item does not qualify for free shipping after the code, use this one for free shipping on any order amount:  MVCMARCH. The only thing is that you need to pay with a Kohl's card.

with the code this one will be $82.59 shipped. it has a ladder.

This one's bigger but the platforms are still close. It will be $97.99 shipped

This is the one I got Henry. It would be $59.49 shipped (this is the only one that would require the free shipping code)  . Lilith loves it.

She's getting really into jumping on furniture in our room so I think a cat tree is definitely a necessity.  I like the look of the Kitty Mansions and Wayfair has some good prices.  Anyone have Killy Mansion brand trees?  Also, since she's still cloistered in our room, should I start the tree out there and then transition it out once she feels more comfortable in the whole house?

She does need a scratching post; the motion of scratching is good for cats, and declawing doesn't change that. Are her feet tender? If so, then yes, something that's appropriate for older or disabled cats. If her feet aren't tender, she can probably handle any cat tree that most cats could. I have a large walk in closet, with shelves all aroud. Jasmine has decided to treat it as a gymnasium. She will leap onto the lowest shelf on the south side, and from there she leaps onto the highest shelf on the north side, seven feet away. The shelves aren't carpeted, so she's not using her claws at all, just her muscles and feline agility.

Thank you for adopting a special needs cat. I'm glad she's found a forever home with someone who wouldn't have done this horrible thing to her in the first place.

I've found multiple carpenters/woodworkers that enjoy making dog and cat furniture on craigslist, etsy, and neighborhood listservs for clients. Also, Refined Feline makes the Aspen, and Cloud shelves for wallspace. These are hundreds of dollars, versus handmade to specific order request towers/trees and houses by carpenters locally. Can pick carpet/wood color, amount/width of sisal, and dimensions. And they deliver for a fee, for those without access to a truck for the 4-6ft trees. Beautiful, lasting workmanship. Replaceable sisal, can be rewrapped after it's worn. Declawed and in-tact cats alike enjoy a good column or pad of sisal to rub on and scratch!

The biggest problem with custom is cost and time - we need one asap.

So, my next question:

Armarkats vs Kitty Mansions vs Go Pet Club

What have you found to be the sturdiest?  I have two young children and Celestina is quite large so it needs to be stable.  And, as mentioned previously, it needs to have closer steps with larger platforms suitable to large and older/declawed cats.  Oh!  And we have a rather small house so I need to be mindful of size - footprint specifically.

I've had trees made by all 3 companies you have mentioned. I love Armarkat and Kitty Mansions products. I have been disappointed by the few Go PetClub trees I have purchased, so do not recommend that.

For the Armarkat, I have purchased:
A6501
A7101
A7401
A7802
B6203
B7301
B8201

For Kitty Mansions, I have purchased:
Hollywood
Troy
Amazon

My next purchase will be the Mini-Amazon cat tree for a special needs kitty I have (rear limb neuropathy/myopathy.)

My personal favorite tree is the full size Amazon tree I purchased last year. I don't regret spending the $$ at all. It is used on a daily basis. Even my soon to be 17 yr old enjoys sleeping in the bottom house.

So.... How am I supposed to hang the included dangly toys on the cat tree?  The instructions don't give any indication.  My husband thought maybe stapling?

I just saw this and was going to let you know I bought mine last summer off Amazon.com it was a Petco one though about 6 feet tall and my cats are all over it daily jumping and climbing, laying in the window. They are both all 4 paw declawed and have no problem getting around on it. I got a second one 2 months ago off Kohls.com and its a bit smaller but they still do ok on it. I wouldn't have gotten it as it is a bit smaller but with kohls cash and credits I had and stuff I paid I total of $7.00 with shipping.  :)

Thank you all again!

Celestina seems to enjoy her tower and has no problem with it despite being declawed!  :)

Aww!  That looks perfect for her!  I think that might be the same tree I was looking at getting around Christmas time.  I like all the perches to climb!
