Asha's first meeting with my chocolate lab Leah reminded me of an incident that happened a couple of months ago.

Leah had been hit by a car when she saw two of her spaniel friends on the other side of he road...She'd been in the boot of the car and had shot out before it was even properly open (firstly, she was fine apart from a couple of bruises and some general soreness. Secondly, this was very out of character for her..she's generally very obedient but her excitement got the better of her). The next day her friends (and their humans, obviously ;) ) came round to see how she was doing. We were all sat chatting with the dogs just chilling out on the floor. Shadow (our British blue shorthair) decided that he was going to come and say hello to everyone. One of the spaniels instantly jumped up and went to chase poor Shad. She'd only got a couple of paces across the room when Leah jumped up, growling furiously, and sent the spaniel back to her owners! There was a definite vibe of "that's my cat. You leave him alone." How's that for good with cats?

Just seeing this thread.  That's a great story--both that Leah was okay after her accident! and that she protected 'her' cat.  Sweet.
