Got a new baby & want to do things right this time.  I fed my last cat fish because I didn't know any better & he got IBD followed by cancer.  Would give anything to have known the right thing to feed him.  So I am looking for a canned food that is high in protein, low carbs, grain free & does not contain Carrageenan, Did not want to search the whole site for this info.  I am in the US.

I think many of us wish we knew then what we know now about the importance of feeding an appropriate diet.  I know I do.  At least, we can do right with our new furbabies.

A few high protein, low carb, grain and carrageenan free that I feed are

Tiki Cat Puka Luau chicken

Tiki Cat chicken and egg

Natural Choice chunky chicken

Natural Choice chunky turkey

Weruva Cats in the Kitchen Chicken Frick a Zee

Natures Variety Instinct Duck

Natures Variety Rabbit

Fancy Feast classic Turkey & Giblet

Did you feed wet food only and fish only?

@Riley1, I learned the hard way about this, too, and share your feelings of regret about not knowing how to feed our previous cat. The only consolation is that what I learned when she was sick (most likely also with IBD and cancer, which weren't fully diagnosed because she had other ailments that made her very frail) helped me learn how to feed our new cats.

Our cats get a lot of the same canned foods @Lokhismom's cats get:

Tiki's luau foods (chicken, chicken/egg, and chicken/salmon, their only significant fish)

Tiki's Gourmet Carnivore foods (all but the fish)

Weruva's Cats in the Kitchen (Chicken Frick a Zee, Double Dip, Fowl Ball)

Nutro Natural Choice (minced chicken, sliced turkey, chunky chicken)

They're all high-protein, low-carb, grain-free, carrageenan-free, potato-free, pea-free, and cat-approved. (The rest of their diet is various commercial raw foods.)

Congratulations on your new cat! How old is s/he?

I feed tiki Puka luau shredded chicken, nutro natural choice chunky chicken, Red Barn tricky chicky, Pride by instinct Rockstar Rabbit, Daredevil Duck and Luckys Lamb. Fancy Feast Classic liver & chicken or chopped grill (neither have fish). I also rotate Merrick duck or chicken Pate (has carageenan). Fussie cat tuna and prawns (has carageenan) Natural balance catatouille stew. Wellness chicken/duck Devine duos. I rotate all of these weekly and give chicken Purebites (dogs bag) for treats.

She was transferred from our shelter from another so we have little information.  They think she is around 2.  Not as pretty as my last baby but really unique coloring.  A Himalayan/Siamese, seal point tortie, with  blue eyes.

Oh, she must be a beautiful cat! Have you posted pictures anywhere? It's especially great that you're feeding her well -- when we adopted our (new) Siamese mixes, our vet said they tend to get digestive disorders so she recommended grain-free, low-carb, etc. You may already know that about Siamese but we didn't; we just adopted the two cats we liked most, knowing very little about the two cats or Siamese in general. (We got a new vet, a cat specialist, for our new cats after I realized how clueless our old vets had been about diet!)

Just brought her home today so no pictures yet.  I have a Mac & have not figured out how to post on this site. She has the most unusual coloring but not the beauty of my little black & white house cat. She is so very sweet! I didn't know Siamese had stomach problems.  I will have to research as well; my vet is not up on nutrition either.

Oh, she is a very new cat for you! Our cats, who are also around two, do have some stomach issues -- particularly Edwina, who seems to vomit if she eats potato or if her stomach's empty for too long -- but so far the problems have been easy to deal with. I'm hoping that feeding them a healthy diet will help prevent further problems. Enjoy your new kitty!

I feed a lot of these as well. I think all Nature's Variety fits the bill. I also feed

Pride by Instinct duck, chicken, rabbit and lamb

Soulistic Good Karma and Harvest Sunrise (these are shredded chicken in a broth like gravy). The HS has bits of pumpkin in it. It is made by Weruva and is Petco's house brand.

Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken

I just bought a case of Red Barn Tricky Chicky from Wag.com. I'll let you know how that one goes over when it gets here but a lot of members here have had great results with it

Has anyone tried against the grain chicken and pumpkin samba? It looks good, 38% off on chewy. I think I will try it, my cats liked the chicken and cheese sample.

Thank you all for the advice.  Talked to my vet & Chewy.com as well.  Decided to go with Instinct & rotate all the flavors.  Really like Tiki but around here they only stock the fish. The vet said I have to keep her at no more than 250 cal per day & she acts like I am staving her.  Can't live out dry for grazing because it is consumed in one minute. She hasn't figured out a treat ball. 7.5 pounds but very petite & active.  Hope you can open this file.
