I emailed Against the Grain and requested a sample of the Chicken and Pumpkin Samba cat food. They instead sent me a can of Caribbean Club with Chicken and CHEESE. I thought that dairy was supposed to be bad for cats. The third ingredient in the food is processed cheddar cheese. That makes me think of a can of Cheese Wiz. Should I even let my cats try the food, or just throw it away? Is cheese particularly bad for cats with IBD?

If you don't feel comfortable feeding it, probably best not to feed it.

There are quite a few foods that contain cheese. Dairy isn't a killer, but it's not ideal for lactose intolerant animals (technically, humans are lactose intolerant as well). It can make a food tastier for cats - many people recommend or have used Parmesan cheese as a topper to entice their cats to eat new foods, and it works. I give our cats tiny pieces of cheese if I'm making something cheesy for myself. They love it. If they eat too much, they'll probably have loose poops though. Ask a lactose intolerant human and you'll probably find they have the same result.

I can't comment on the IBD, but if you have reservations about feeding it and don't want it for your cats, please don't waste it and consider donating it or giving it away instead.
