A call for help from animal lovers around the globe
The purpose of this fund is to help Widad the cat travel to Holland to complete her treatment and arrive at her forever home where a family is waiting to provide her with the love and warmth she has been deprived of.
Brief info about the cat:
Widad is a feral cat that was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time in Damascus/Syria and became the victim of a mortar shell that landed in residential neighborhood and a shrapnel badly injured her right leg, in the wake of the incident a good-hearted person found her and through facebook managed to seek help and she was rushed to a veterinary clinic where she received a preliminary surgery after which she will hopefully travel to Lebanon and from there to Holland where her condition will be assessed to determine whether her leg can be saved or will sadly need amputation. The name Widad is an Arabic word that translates to friendliness and was chosen because she despite being a feral cat was quite accepting of human handling and interaction, this is rarely the case with feral cats in Syria who are generally untrusting of humans and for a good reason as they are often the subject of abuse.

As many of you are no doubt aware, there is a war in Syria and sadly the casualties of this war sometimes include helpless feral cats and stray/abandoned dogs. A group of volunteers called "Animals Syria" despite the limited resources try to help animals in need primarily by picking them up, taking them to veterinary clinics, and after recovery placing them in good homes. In the past years many such animals were eventually sent to friends in Holland who have taken it upon themselves to adopt the most demanding cases such as those suffering from blindness or paralysis.

Brief info about the plan:
In the past decade dozens of animals have been sent to Europe and the process starts with volunteers from Europe boarding a plane to Beirut/Lebanon on the same day the animals are driven from Damascus/Syria to Beirut/Lebanon in a taxi, European laws permit each traveler to go back to with up to five animals accompanying them and so after a long journey the animals finally arrive in a safe and capable environment that is simply impossible to replicate in their country of origin. In the past the substantial cost of doing this was handled by the caring individuals in both Syria and Holland but as conditions worsen and the cost vastly increases due to new regulations for the entry of animals to Europe this is no longer an option and thus your help is needed to save not only Widad but many other animals that either have medical issues or are difficult to home locally. The money is used to do the following:
- Take blood samples and send them and to certified European labs to procure the required documents.
- Buy 2-way plane tickets for the volunteers.
- Pay the fee for entering the animals into Europe.
- Buy miscellaneous items such as pet carriers and food because often the volunteers and animals sleep one night in Beirut before departing.
