I have really bad ants in my apartment so decided to use essential oils as I figured they would be safer around my cat then the chemical spray. Of course  right after I sprayed I discovered both peppermint and teatree oil is toxic to cats!

the mixture was 15 drops peppermint oil, 15 drops teatree oil, 1/4 cup vodka, 1 cup water

I only sprayed it in 1 rooms, which I quickly locked my cat out of and he wasn't in the room while I sprayed but the door was open. my apartment is also really small.

When I sprayed it it was pointed at the ceiling towards a skylight but a few drops still hit the carpet below.

Iv been searching around but I can't find much info other then the fact its toxic.

the cat is 7ish  year old mainecoon cross and healthy other then being a couple pound overweight.

Other then keeping a close eye on him is there anything else I should do????

How long should I keep him out of the room??

Thanks to anyone who answers! I can't believe I didn't search it first.

I'm wondering why you sprayed it in the air.  Usually, you spray along the trail and around door frames and window sills.  In the future, you can use orange oil.  Your kitty will probably be fine.

The ants are coming in threw the sky light so I sprayed the area around the skylight.

Ok, that makes perfect sense!  I think that most of it will be evaporated and your kitty will be okay.  They will probably stay away from the tea tree oil as it stinks and they don't like the smell.
