Is Purina bad?

I've been reading up and it seems that Purina has changed some of their ingredients in the last couple years and I was wondering if anyone here still feeds their cats Purina? One of my cats, who's almost 6, has been on Purina One for Sensitive Stomachs nearly his whole life (since he was a kitten) and I'm afraid changing it would cause him problems since it's all he's ever had. My other cat used to switch between foods without a problem. They also for their canned food eat the Purina Rise & Shine brand, which is the only brand of canned food they finish up (they share one can between them). They don't like chunks in their food, they don't like pate. I've tried all sorts of brands of wet food and the higher quality stuff they turn their nose up at, except for the Natural Choice Minced. And I don't even know if that's a recommended brand.

I'm on a budget so I can't really afford the most expensive stuff but I certainly don't want to feed them something that is considered poisoning them. I pay around $12 a bag for 7 lbs which lasts a lot longer now that I don't free feed them. I could afford maybe $20 for 7 lbs, if there's anything that falls into that range that would be better for them and OK for Max's sensitive stomach. Also trying to help Sonny lose weight if there's anything good for sensitive stomachs AND weight loss lol. They eat some when I feed them, but mostly graze so it'd be difficult to put them on different foods.

I wouldn't say Purina is bad, I just stay away from it because Purina doesn't have the best reputation and I am a little iffy on some of the ingredients. If that is what works best for little Max and his sensitive stomach, I wouldn't say you need to change. However, my cat River has a sensitive stomach as well. I went through a lot of different brands of both wet and dry and I can say I have finally found foods that she thrives on. Orijen dry food is what I would consider the best of the best as far as dry food goes. It runs about $25 for a 5.5 pound bag. It tends to last longer as long as you are not free feeding as they need less of this food since it is so high in protein and calories. The ingredients in it are the best for what you can find for dry food. River only has a little bit of dry food in her diet. River's main diet consists of Tiki Cat canned food, a very good and high quality wet food. She loves it. It is grain and carrageenan free. Tiki Cat is pricey though. Natural Choice is also a good brand, I would recommend looking for grain free in the Natural Choice line. Grains tend to irritate a lot of cats stomachs. If you do decide to start what can be a very tedious journey of looking for a better food for your cats, I would always try things that say grain free. If you can get carrageenan free as well, that would be even better. Hope this helps!

Did you just switch him from a different food? Sometimes that can cause stomach issues. My understanding is that Purina changed their formula last year or in 2013, and people complained about that causing stomach problems and other issues. If the problems just started now and he has always been on Purina I would think it isn't the food. or maybe his stomach is just becoming more sensitive? I read a whole list of bad reviews about Purina which concerned me but my cats haven't had stomach issues at this time.

The Natural Choice wet food you mentioned they have eaten is a good food.  Its grain free, protein is the first ingredient, no unneeded veggies and fruits.  I would definately keep feeding that in their rotation.

The only Purina food I feed is the Fancy Feast Classic Turkey & Giblet and I've never had a problem.    I don't feed dry but there are lots of dry foods to choose from. Maybe look into Natural Choices dry food since they like the wet.      I'd recommend to continue to feed them wet along with the dry.  It'll be healthier for them.

Good luck
